Georgia would have to go full retard. Tennessee is already there but trying desperately to get out. Clemson is heading in that direction.

What amazes me is everyone expects their team to win. It's a sporting contest that has 1 winner and 1 loser. 100% of the time, the game of football has a loser. Wouldn't it be nice if there were no losers? Everybody could play to a draw or be a winner for having fun playing the sport they love.
Think of all the negativity that would immediately go away...

In Auburn's case, it was a series of unfortunate events. When Tuberville started getting blown out in recruiting by Saban, they put a guy completely without leverage in the head coach job and surrounded him with street agents to recruit. It worked, briefly. Then came Gus with his flavor-of-the-month spread variety. It worked, briefly. Gus felt his scheme held all the answers to talent gaps. Meanwhile, Saban continued his stranglehold on talent in Alabama, Kirby closed up Georgia, thanks to the worst AD hires in Auburn history, Gus got extended and led to the Harsin experiment and now we have Freeze.

It WAS coaching. In the future, I don't think coaches will matter as much. It's all going to be about year to year money and scouting, which will all likely be handled by off the field positions.

what's your criteria for 'breaking through' .... ?

11 win seasons?

SECCG appearances ?

do you want a hint which one of the two has done both ....?

USC 10-14 SEC w Beamer / Stoops 11-13 in that time - Beamer has won 2 of 3 head to head w Stoops -

It really surprises me how far Florida has fallen. They came into that thrown shoe game hunting a national title several years ago and now they’re not even mid tier SEC anymore. 17-24 overall record since and theyre 100% going to have 4 straight losing seasons after next year. Over the last 3 years the only SEC team they have a better conference record than is Vanderbilt.
while it may seem like Florida football is in shambles and on the decline you need to remember that we’re building a new stadium kitchen at the swamp

We have a all time winning record against Kentucky. They have never finished a season ranked in the top 10 and we have more than once. How exactly has Kentucky done more than we have?

7-4 vs us which is really good, but only 2-3 in the last 5. He came in right at the time Spurrier left and our program went to hell. Hell Beamer is 2-1 vs UK

but regardless that doesnt really answer the question. In terms of breaking through that is.

As for why SC hasnt broken through. A few things including our BOT structure, being an independent for 20 years, and losing the arms race. WE have made up some ground in the facilities race but with NIL we have fallen behind. The SEC is a tough place to rise up, and an easy place to fall behind

You are aware we didn’t “lose” Freeze right? And Tubberville left because we were still hammered with sanctions…. Almost 30 years ago. So your only “evidence” that we can’t hold a coach from being poached is one example from our history almost 3 decades ago.

Find better evidence to support your argument instead of sounding like a moron.

The Lane Train retiring in Oxford doesn't seem like a healthy bet.
Where did I say this?

Also, people like you have said “he’s desperate to get out of Oxford” for over 4 years now. And yet, he is still here. But I’m sure nobody wants him even though he has won 30 games the last 3 years with 2 NY6 bowl appearances, right?

It truly amazes me that Ole Miss and Missouri are playing at an elite level while Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn can’t reclaim their previous level of success. TAMU has spent enough money to buy Miami but has pissed it away so fast. For the life of me I can’t understand why South Carolina hasn’t been able to breakthrough when places like Kentucky have.
Good post with one exception.

Not hating on them, but Missouri needs to have another season or two like last year before I would say they are playing at an elite level (unless you're just talking about last season only).

I do agree with the rest. Ole Miss keeps improving under Kiffen, so I would agree they have been playing at an elite level lately.

Kirby closed up Georgia

Overall I agree with your post, but the reality is Kirby really hasn't closed up GA in recruiting.

Nearly every UGA coach has talked about locking down GA recruits. Richt actually came close for a couple of years.

Kirby decided to use a national approach on top recruits rather than focus on GA. It's why we targeted Zack Evans over Tank Bigsby (which ended up being a huge mistake as we cut Evans loose and had no chance to pick up Bigsby at that point).

We still focused on GA for filling spots after the elite level guys. But it's why we finished the 2024 recruiting cycle with the best class but only signed 3 of the top 10 and 4 of the top 25 in the state of Georgia.

2. Florida is the outlier. They have the most talent rich state and have far less competition. Any coach that is not a moron should win 9 games annually in Gainesville. (Just like LSU). Their only limitation is themselves.

Hey, don't lump us in with the Gators.

We've had two morons win national championships.

That proves my point. You don’t have to be a great coach to succeed at LSU and Florida.

Just don’t be a complete idiot.

It's almost like coaching matters. Imagine that.
