SEC Championship…why bother?

It’s run its course and should be retired. Here’s my list of pros/cons.
Pros
-you get to hang a banner and get gaudy rings
-you get a 1st round bye in Playoffs (see below)
Cons
-you aren’t getting a bye because you are playing the extra game. You will still have to play 16 games.
-the loser has to play 17 games IF the loss from the additional game doesn’t knock them out
-combined with the 12 team PO, you increase the chances of two teams playing three times in one year.
It was fun while it lasted. Unfortunately, I can foresee teams, safely in the PO, resting starters. We all love the last week of the NFL season when the playoffs are already decided, don’t we?

National Championship...why bother?
It's already been decided.

1st round bye goes to the sec champ, if the sec declared its champ based on regular season I would think that team would still get the bye. Would make for some wild conference games too with tie breakers. Imagine if a tiebreaker between say uga and Texas was based on who wins the egg bowl at the end of the season.

I hate that they made this game essentially irrelevant.
With that said.. if I’m a coach, you do have to at least contemplate benching your starters for that game.
Winning it gives you no clear cut benefit.

Misread at first, but it really depends on what your record in and whether or not you're risking getting eliminated by losing the SECCG

Add 2 Regular Season Conference games for larger Regular Season sample size
Regular Season Conference Champ gets 1st round bye in playoff
Eliminate Conference Championship game
Avoid teams playing 3 times in a season
With Conference expansion/consolidation and no more Conference Divisions, a Conference Championship game is nothing more than a money grab.

Agree the CCG only benefits the winner, not much gained by simply reaching the game and coming up short...and it could potentially knock the loser out of the playoffs.
Having said that, no chance it goes away, too much money at stake to allow other conferences to have the spotlight.

Having an extra game before the playoff is different than having an extra game in the playoff.
It's pretty easy to see why. The loser of the SECCG will almost always make the playoff. The season isn't over. Lose in the playoff and you're done.
Getting the first round bye is worth it.

Because in 2027 when the new contract is signed with the 24/24 or 32/32 Big 10 and SEC. Big 10 and SEC championships will become the national semifinals like the AFC/NFC

They should just crown a regular season champion based on the season. If there are ties, so be it. The game, however, is going to end up fricking over more teams than it helps.

No worries, it's not like it's going to involve Ole Miss.

The money is there because the interest is currently there. My point is that the interest and importance of the game will diminish in this new landscape. If and when starters are rested regularly, the eyeballs and the ad buys will suffer.

Completely agree it’s totally irrelevant now. Shame but true.
