"This is a difficult day for all of us, and I am especially disappointed for our student-athletes," SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said. "The health and well-being of our entire conference community is an ongoing priority for the SEC as we continue to monitor developments and information about the COVID-19 virus."
Other athletics activities, including team and individual practices, meetings and other organized gatherings, whether required or voluntary, remain suspended through at least April 15.
SEC member institutions will continue to provide their student-athletes with care and support to meet needs in areas including academics, medical care, mental health and wellness, nutrition and housing as needed.
The SEC and its member institutions will continue to communicate with public health officials and medical experts to determine the best path forward related to coronavirus pandemic.

This confusing release doesn't seem to cancel the football season. If NCAA football is canceled the press release will probably come from the NCAA. My guess is that the season will eventually be canceled.

Is this a surprise to anyone?

This is currently 2019-2020 season. Football is part of 2020-2021 season.

Maybe so, but this is a sensationalist post and ignorant responses considering this was announced yesterday and has no affect on sports the next school year.

Maybe so,
While I expect the worst of the pandemic to be over, I just question if the league and authorities are going to allow 100,000 people to cram into a stadium to watch a football game. I wouldn't be surprised if its cancelled as an abundance of caution.

It was just released yesterday evening. I posted to share about SEC Sports being canceled on an SEC Sports message board. How is this sensationalist? Quit eating dick because you are starting to turn into one.

I agree. We had better start preparing ourselves for no football of any kind next season.

Because we already knew sports were canceled for the rest of the spring, which is the end of the 2019-2020 athletic year. At first glance it looks like you're trying to stir shite by making it seem football has been canceled.

Actually, this is not true. The NCAA cancelled all spring championships. The SEC said "wait a damn minute" and hinted that baseball/softball could resume down the road.
