What about points for CWS wins? This is prior to the 2018 season (their 2019 records book isn't out yet).

At some point you have to pick a place to stop splitting the hairs out, I guess.

For one, the size of the CWS field has changed multiple times. For 2, the format has changed multiple times. For three, most of these figures are wrapped up in the CWS-CWS Runner Up-CWS Champ numbers. I'm sure there are a few schools that got to the Final Four and lost a bunch (pretty sure Alabama would get a little bump out of this), but it wouldn't be all that much different.

That's incredible - especially considering it can be argued they've actually underachieved over the last 10 years given the talent they've brought in and pumped out to MLB.

oh absolutely. They underachieved for a long time under him. That team with David Price was the #1 overall seed and got bounced in the regionals, just as an example. Hell, the team that won a CWS title wasn't even close to their best team under him.

Their recruiting pipelines are Sabanesque.

Yeah, they're basically the new Stanford. Must be nice to have most of your team on full-scholarship through financial aid packages. That and the Vandy education as a selling point.

David Price (1, 1)
Pedro Alvarez (1, 2)
Mike Minor (1, 7)
Ryan Flaherty (1, 41)

Not to mention 3 other guys who played in the majors and 3 that got to AAA. 10 guys on that roster who played in the major leagues or AAA. 3 guys drafted in the first 7 picks of the draft, including 2 pitchers.

Didn't make it out of a a regional.

Unreal.

To keep it fair we should award points for something every program has equally. We all have fans.

I propose 12 points for each time the program has had a top 25 record on-campus attendance for a ball game

Seems perfectly fair.

Move Mississippi State to 494 points

LSU remains in the lead with 540 points

Arkansas moves up to 240 points

the Big 12/SWC was a better baseball conference for a long time and still are a good baseball conference. I don't think it's unreasonable to give them points for those conference titles. If you're singling out A&M, may as well include Arkansas as well, just saying.

Yes. Arkansas, South Carolina, Mizzou. All of them.

Their former conferences may have been more difficult to win in some years.... may have been easier to win in others. But they were never exactly equal so including it as a factor does not work.

Yup. 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2015 were all better teams than the 2014 team that won the CWS title.

Then the only way to do it would be not to include them at all. But that wouldn't exactly be fair to them either. However, I'd be willing to bet if you removed conference titles for everyone, the rankings wouldn't change much, if any.

If you remove conference titles from the equation
1. LSU (430)
2. South Carolina (312)
3. Florida (264)
4. Mississippi St (222)
5. Arkansas (200)
6. Texas A&M (156)
7. Missouri (152)
8. Alabama (138)
9. Georgia (130)
10. Vanderbilt (122)
11. Ole Miss (104)
12. Auburn (94)
13. Tennessee (78)
14. Kentucky (18)

So for comparison with the original ranking in the OP
1. LSU (468) - same
2. Florida (324) - 3
2. South Carolina (324) - same
4. Mississippi State (290) - same
5. Texas A&M (232) - 6
6. Arkansas (216) - 5
7. Alabama (194) - 8
8. Georgia (162) - 9
9. Missouri (160) - 7
10. Vanderbilt (146) - same
11. Ole Miss (132) - same
12. Auburn (118) - same
13. Tennessee (90) - same
14. Kentucky (22) - same

So, as expected, not much difference.
