Why are so many of you fine with playing some ineligible players but not others?
Because fans have been arguing over the occasional sixth year medical redshirt for years.
Arguing about guys just cut from NFL preseason rosters coming back to play college football after the season has kicked off is completely new.
In the Chambliss case we are arguing something that has precedent. We are arguing whether his illness was severe enough to grant a medical redshirt season.
With this latest situation we are arguing whether players who were just cut from NFL preseason rosters can return to college teams after the season has kicked off.
Surely you are able to discern the difference.

So, you're saying people are fine with one because they've gotten used to it and not the other, because it's new?
Even though they're basically the same thing at the end of the day, the issue of playing ineligible players?

There is no rule against 6th year medical redshirts from playing college football. There is a rule that prohibits players who have signed professional contracts and appeared on a pro roster from playing college football.
You are welcome, glad I could help clear this up for you.

I agree, but Chambliss never got a medical redshirt. It was rejected not once but twice, if you recall. He's just as ineligible as a pro player, per NCAA and SEC rules.

Should a federal judge eventually rule that a voluntary organization can enforce it's agreed on bylaws,
Federal judge/s won’t rule that way if the voluntary organization’s bylaws are deemed discriminatory. It will be interesting to see how they rule.
