Think about it...both are owned by ESPN & could, possibly, stop the B1G from entering the East Coast/South East.

Granted, that's 30-31 schools to deal with...but how would it impact the B1G?

My guess is Big10 would have to merge with the Pac-12 leftovers, maybe a couple Big12 leftovers

And Notre Dane

If both the B1G and SEC stop at 20, it's not that difficult.

The NFL doesn’t merge with xfl.

It buys it;

If it wants to.

Eta. The sec probably doesn’t want to add more teams after Tex/Ou.

You don’t want to add 4 more slices to the pizza and divide by 20

PAC 1
USC
UCLA
* California
* Stanford
* Oregon
* Washington

Nebraska
Iowa
* Colorado
* Utah
* Arizona
* Kansas

B1G
Michigan
Michigan State
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Indiana
Purdue

Ohio State
Penn State
Rutgers
Maryland
Illinois
Northwestern

Those 8 would take them to 24

Other options
Notre Dame
Pittsburgh
UVA
UNC
GT
Rice
Tulane

So if we took the whole ACC.. I would guess they would stop at 24 and wait for Notre Dame.

But we wouldn’t have to take the whole ACC. We would have to take 11 of them

All but Wake, BC, Syracuse?

4 - Texas, A&M, OU, Missouri
4 - LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, MSU

4 - Alabama, Auburn, Tenn, Candy
4 - Kentucky, Louisville, UVA, VT

4- Georgia, Ga Tech, SC, Clemson
4 - Florida, FSU, UNC, NC State

4 - ND, Pitt, WVU, Miami
4 - Duke, Kansas, Harvard, Princeton

There’s no such thing as a merger. One organization eats the other one.

You should really be asking why they would want to merge or buy. They don’t.

Why do we care about the number of schools?

I say stop at 16. Quality>>>> Quantity

I don’t want to dilute the conference with a bunch of east coast Yankee schools. If we take any, just take FSU, UNC, Clemson and Virginia Tech. I don’t want Miami, Virginia, Duke, BC, etc

Because if the SEC doesn't match the B1G in #'s, it's only time before the SEC finds themselves in the same position XII was & PAC/ACC compared to the B1G.

I’d be open if we could kick out Wake Forest and maybe Louisville. Boston College is worthless too but at least Fall weekends in Boston would be fun.

All the decent P5 schools should merge into ONE conference

and then have 8 divisions that aren't too big, have some balance of traditional powers in each and make geographic sense.

No. Why dilute the payout? Now if ESPN ups the ante we can expand our footprint. Otherwise NO.

You for damn sure don’t want Louisville.
