Just like the SEC Football Championship, do these tourneys matter anymore?

Should they even be played?

They’re pointless. When we were good at baseball we still never cared about the SEC tourney.

Yes they appear to be fun and the teams like them and the fans like them and it’s more baseball to watch. If you like baseball how could you not like more baseball. Also if they are meaningless then they don’t count against you either. Wheres the rub?

Too much money for them not to be played. The only way they will disappear is if fans don’t show up and don’t watch on TV. Obviously, that won’t happen, so, it’s here to stay .

And to baseball fans. That’s a good thing.

Yes, we know ..the SEC football championship doesn't matter to Vanderbilt fans, or for any Tennessee schools

Love the Met. Baseball for days, it’s a fun atmosphere and mingling with fans from all the other schools is always a good time. Pretty much never had a bad experience in Hoover.

The SECT is still important. It gives a lower level team an opportunity to move up the totem pole.

One thing I don’t understand. If one of the best teams chooses to pitch a pitcher who has not pitched much, why not just play your second string field players as well?
I am okay with that. Give those players some valuable experience on a big stage. And it may pay dividends in a later Regional/SR/CWS.

I like the new format. Much friendlier for each team’s pitching staffs while also making for some competitive games.

Why in the world would you want it to go away? I mean, nobody makes you watch.

As for being meaningless, tell that to the teams that need to do well in these championships to have hope for the postseason.

Maybe he tanked. Or maybe his cuckold lifestyle is spinning out of control in the libertine Austin culture and he’s losing his edge. He did get swept by Early just a few weeks ago.

If the goal is to win it all, then I would probably do the same. If Texas won the SEC tourney, would they be better off at all? My guess is they may bump into #2 or #3 cede, but I doubt UCLA is dropping from #1. If they went one-and-done, would they drop out as a top-8 seed? If not, then the tourney is all risk for Texas with limited reward.

Let's not forget that Texas's #2 starter is currently shelved this weekend due to "arm fatigue", and their #1 is a Soph in his first full year as a starter. Why risk it?

Them running out a bullpen game for game 1 should have probably been expected, and if they did something otherwise, it would be the shock.

I would imagine a second tier pitcher will come as a possibility a lot more than lineup full of second team position guys.

Give some rest to your pitchers who need it and then test out some fringe guys you may need if you go down a game in the playoffs.

I think if you need to do this, one you have a great position in the tournament to begin with where you’re not trying to cling up the totem pole or cling to your current seeding…

It’s low risk in your in the position to be able to do this and if for some reason your fringe guys allow you to win and advance you a game forward, you have a solid shot at winning the tournament with your aces still being b your back pocket.

The only issue I had is the guy they ran with is a veteran guy with a 6+ ERA. At this point you pretty much know what you’re going to get from him.

Run out your younger guys that might have some juice
