I'm okay with Saban getting his team up for the game and sticking it to LSU at the same time. I'll lose a little sleep over this, but not much.

I don't think that word means what you think it means...but I don't remember Sabin making excuses pre-Auburn EVER before.
Cuz "this is the best team we've played" is an excuse.

Well this is a cryptic statement. My thinking, this is what you all coach speak. From an LSU fan perspective, the Iron Bowl is the best SEC Rivalry game, Period!. It is a rival game on every metric you use, 1) Schools share the same state, 2) Alums, 3) Administrators, 4) Coaches and players, 5) former coaches and players, 6) in-state media, etc, etc, etc.
So what if Saban says this is a good team, but not the best team we have played. He said probably, and it also is a typical Saban lobbying effort since this is the last game his team will not be playing 7 December.
That is what I take from his statement.

Well...
You definitely don't deserve to be in the playoffs if you lost to a team (LSU) that wasn't "the best team we've played". So, I'd say win or lose, Bama is out.
