Saban: Leaving LSU was the biggest mistake of my professional career

"As it turns out, what I learned from that experience in hindsight was, it was a huge mistake to leave college football," Saban said. "And I know a lot of LSU fans think I left for whatever reasons, but I left because I wanted to be a pro coach, or thought I wanted to be a pro coach. We loved LSU. We worked hard to build the program. If there was one thing professionally that I would do over again, it would've been not to leave LSU."

I'm glad he made that mistake.

I think every reasonable LSU fan understood why he left and wished him well. We were thankful he did for this program what he did.
And then he went to Alabama and we all wished he would have died in a fire.

LSU...has Saban made all of you feel THAT insecure? C'mon, be thankful you had him when you did and move on 'cause he ain't going back. You're bubble gum dreams of "what if" will only keep getting popped (by Bama) if you don't.

I’m thinking Jimbo can rebuild atm.

Uh, we will get right on coaching the team past Saban leaving us?

The thing is though this was the best job available.
Whats he supposed to do? Not take it because LSU is in the same division?

Leaving worked out best for him. He never has the same success staying at lsu

Leaving LSU was a mistake, and Alabama being open for return was a blessing. Both are true. That’s not to say he couldn’t have let Wake Forest to a title if he had to but At LSU and at Bama he had the institutional support and recruiting prowess to build a dynasty.

Okay, I understand that.
What are LSU fans suppose to do, wish him success at an in-conference, in-division rival? I get why he went to Bama, and I get why LSU fans hated it, even now. He did for Bama what we knew he would, what LSU could have been if he stayed, blah, blah, blah.
I think it’s reasonable all around as long as we are honest.

"I'm just amazed this has happened," Saban told Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame chairman Doug Ireland and selection committee member/sports writer Ron Higgins early this month when he got the call. "I didn't know Louisiana would do this for me."
Dude was pumped.

Yes. Blowing out Georgia doesn't move the needle, we need to beat Saban at Bama again to relieve the insecurity.
