Hey he tried to come back when he decided to leave the dolphins. Bigly donors said naw. I for one appreciated what he did for our program. I think he is clearing his conscious here. Not to mention cleaning up his act of not syaying long in one place. The media was killing him and he could not afford more damage to his rep. But for a fact he did try to come back and was turned down by the bigs

In 5 years Saban won 1 NC and never had back to back 10 win seasons at LSU. He wouldn't have been considered the greatest of all time if he had stayed at LSU.

Completely wrong considering the context of where the program was in 1999 when he took over it was a looooong road back. Unless you think Miles is a better coach than Saban as he came in and immediately won at least 11 games 3 years in a row.

Though his sense of timing sucked, I never blamed him for leaving for Miami.

"I will NOT be the head coach at Alabama." THAT'S where he lost the love. At least mine.

LSU wasn't in any worse shape that Bama under Shula.

Then why didn't he go back to LSU after Miles?

To be honest, I don't think anyone will ever take that title away from Knute Rockne.

From a facility point of view that’s not true at all, but even if you’re right Saban in 2007 had the LSU experience to draw from, not to mention his 2 years in the NFL.

When Sabin left LSU he had that one title and with recruiting was building for more.He left a goldmine of talent for Miles.I think if he had stayed there's no telling how many titles y'all would have.I know when he left Lsu I was glad because he's his team's are so hard to beat and he's a recruiting monster. When Bama got him I told my Lsu Tenn and Auburn friends beating us nearly every yr is over. What a fun ride it's been!

Saban said the same thing about not leaving LSU - just before announcing he was leaving LSU on Christmas Eve.

The MSU fans bombarded the board I was on at the time with a lot of "We told you so"s about how Saban would just say whatever he thought expedient at the time - and then just do what was in his best interests. I don't blame the guy for doing what are in his best interests, but to wake up Christmas morning and look under the tree only to find Saban's smiling face saying, "See ya!" was a bit much.

He left LSU the same way he left MSU and Miami - with lies and deceit. He's not the first to be that way, and he won't be the last. That doesn't mean I have to like it.

I keep trying to look at things that way. But, it's tough. Still, we got a good coach now. I am grateful -- things could be worse.

Meh, those things aren’t done until they’re done & he has his current recruiting efforts ton think about.

I always thought he left because of Candy Edwards.

Some other coaches just keep their mouths shut. I prefer that approach.

People get on them about that too. Remember the FSU guy who showed up to Jimbo’s coaches show?

Well, we know Auburn’s record in Baton Rouge would be unchanged.
