Damn whiny LSU fans ITT making me side with a gump
How do ya'll not understand that theres a chance that Bama and UGA play each other in the SECCG this season? Or that he can go to like 114 other schools and play immediately? Or that starting players rarely to never transfer to other schools within their conference, much less without having to sit out a year? Or that even as a graduate transfer, if he transfers to another SEC school that he still has to sit out 1 year per SEC rules? Or that one of the first things Smart did at UGA was ban his players from transferring to SEC schools and Miami?

Mo only has to sit out 1 year, not 2, like Saban did. Soooooooooooooo
Except he didn't sit out, did he? He went off to the Not For Long league and failed miserably because there are people there that don't have to put up with Nazi Hitlers trying to control other people.
That brings up another question. Why do recruits with NFL aspirations want to play for a coach that doesn't fit in with NFL culture?

He has the chance to let him go and make things all right. Instead he's blocking it because of some ego trip Saban gets out of this. It's a shitty thing, sorry. This is not some superstar player, he's going to a team not even on the schedule. Let, him, go.
He has every right to bring this up to media and smear you guys with it.
I wonder how Kirby would feel if one of his UGA players wanted to follow Richt to Miami? Would he allow him unencumbered release or would he block it?

Your point was that Nick Saban got to go straight from one SEC school to another while Mo Smith does not.
That wasn't true. Your analogy sucked. Get a new one.

If it was a graduate, he wouldn't be able to block it.

What most people feel is right and the law of the land are too different things. I'm not siding right or wrong, just stating that those rules are here now and was there when he signed his first loi. If you guys feel so strongly then start a petition to change it instead of bitching about it on a message board.

Except it doesn't since I was talking about the principle of one playing (or coaching) between schools in the sec.

No - the problem is immediately going from one to another.
Hundreds of players start an SEC school, go to Junior College for a year, then come back to another one. Nick Marshall, Cam Newton, Alvin Kamara.........

No I see it like this, the rules for that should be that they are allowed to transfer to anywhere they want as a graduate transfer. It's bullshite when a coach can just hop up and leave without any restrictions, but a kid has to have limitations on his release. If LSU had a starter do this, I'd say let him go. Don't need a kid who doesn't want to be here.
Saban crows about the unfairness of some shite yet he doesn't say a word about this. He only plays Saint when it suits him, (his player safety campaign a couple years back).

I wonder if Pinkel/Sabans relationship had anything to do it with.

Nick Saban only cares about the system. These kids mean nothing more to him and you know it.
He sold his soul and will eventually sell any recruit down the river as soon as he is no longer capable of expectations.
It's sad really.

I agree with Saban. Even though the circumstances are a bit different than what Smart did because Smith is going to be a grad transfer, I don't blame Saban in the least for blocking it. What's to stop the next guy from trying to transfer to UGA when it's not going the way he had hoped at Bama because of his familiarity with Kirby.
The principle is the same to me. Although I don't think it's likely we make it to Atlanta this year, the possibility exists that it could happen. Why chance it?
That being said, it was terrible the way they handled it if it's indeed true that they blackballed him to prove a point. Bush league imo, but they are right to block his transfer to UGA.
As for why he didn't do it in the spring, he would have to actually graduate before he could be a graduate transfer.
Hopefully, he can find a place to play his final year, as I can't imagine he would want to remain at Bama.

Thanks Mo - you are a good kid - you worked hard in the classroom - you worked hard for the team. Good luck!

I would not let him transfer in conference either if I were him.

Saban spoke on this. The kid is free to transfer to any non SEC school he wants. Saban just isn't going to release a probable starter to another SEC team. Kirby wouldn't either.
The whole in-conference transfer rule is dumb. Let the kids go play where they want. Kinda a faggity rule.
