His teams were loaded. He was great at coaching up his QB's.

Spurrier was a good coach, no doubt. However, he had absolutely NO CLASS.

Lol the classic I’ve got nothing bad to say so I’m going to bring up class.

So sad

...

Spurrier never recruited at UF as good as Saban did at Bama.

WHere Spurrier did excel was his football knowledge, in game coaching, playcalling, and ability to motivate his teams.

Spurrier had to compete with Miami in the early 90s and 2000s, a top 5 FSU team for 14 straight years with Bowden, and a top 10 Tennessee team for the majority of his time at UF.

Not to mention running up against arguably the greatest team ever in 1995 Nebraska that prevented UF from winning its 1st title. Any other team that night, UF would've destroyed.

EDIT: Thats not even mentioning Auburn, who had several great teams in the 90s, and Alabama.

So this notion that the SEC is tougher now than it was when Spurrier coached... Not really sure about that.

Sure what is it 6-1 National championships? I apologize to all the Bama fans who have hurt feelers. Once again, not my intention and I think the reaction from you all is pretty telling.

Come on. You explicitly compare UF to Bama and expect their fans to sit quietly. Especially, when you leave off 2 of the more important factors that would favor Saban: NCs and strength of conference.

Spurrier had a fabulous run and changed the SEC in ways that no one else (including Coaches Bryant or Saban) has done by employing a successful, fun, passing offense to win big. If you had left it with those general comments there would not have been much disagreement but you got specific with stats and left out 2 of the most important. IMO, Spurrier is #3 in the SEC behind Saban/Bryant, whoever is number 1, with Neyland and Vaught being the only other contenders for 3.

IMO, Bama fans have been fairly reasonable.

The Spurrier games with Auburn were always fun. I will never forget that 2001 game, the only time I have witnessed the field goal posts being torn down.

It wouldn't be a thread without a whiny arse UGA fan. Spurrier was 11-1 vs UGA so the butthurt is understandable. He is also the only coach to hang half a hundred on UGA between the hedges. He owned UGA

And it wouldn't be a thread without FlorIDIOT swamp lizards like you who hang their hats on a 20-year time period as their only claim to glory. You belly crawlers never won more than 9 games in a season until Spurrier's 2nd year in '91. Wow, what a history.

Yeah, he hung 52 on us between the fabled hedges once, but UGA beat his arse in '66 and he certainly has never forgotten that you FlorIDIOTS never scored a point on UGA until the 6th year of the series in 1926, have been SHUTOUT 14 times by the Dawgs, including the biggest shutout of all time in the series, 75-0, and others being 56-0, 52-0, 51-0, 44-0, and so on. So, he felt the need to vent and rant that day to pop up the score. He's a man-child who rants and kicks if he doesn't get his way...PLUS...he can't keep his promises to pay a debt to his fellow golfers when he loses (that's another story!).

Florida will never beat us the way we've beaten you--and we'll continue to beat you 'cause...WE OWN YOU, WE HAVE THE DEED TO YOUR ASSES, AND WE AIN'T GIVE'N IT UP!

Yea Bowden and Miami recruited better than UF when Spurrier was here. He just developed and had a brilliant mind for the game. Recruiting wasn't his strong suit.

In 20 years, Florida accomplished way more than UGA did in its entire program history

But lets talk about how UGA fans, like yourself have class, and how UF doesn't

And one measly Natty to show for it.

and remember when Spurrier said this in 2014?

“How many SECs has (Saban) won there in eight years? He’s won two,” Spurrier said, according to gogamecocks.com. “He’s won three nationals, but he’s only won two SECs in eight years. Now, if you had the No. 1 recruiting class every year and so forth, I don’t know if he has maxed out potentially as well as he could.”

SEC titles in 12 years

Saban 6
Spurrier 6

First we hated Spurrier. Then we missed Spurrier. Then we realized we loved Spurrier. Spurrier was an American original who kicked your arse and relished every second of it. And you could appreciate his approach.

When Saban leaves nobody besides Alabama fans will miss him. Because he’s a one- dimensional man, a boring football cyborg who kicks your arse in personal misery.

You did? Is that what they teach in "Imastupidgator" Class 101" at UF?

Yes, I do have class. I bathe in it every day. I'm a Dawg and I hike my leg and stoop my butt on your ugly lounge lizards faces E-V-E-R-Y D-A-Y. That's "SmartDawgie" Class 101.

Spurrier achieved a lot within the SEC, but really underachieved at a National level.

When Bob Stoops knew what a defense was and a few years later took OU to the promised land. If only the Big 12 knew what defense was nowadays that existed in the 90s and early 2000s.

I am old enough to remember some out right nasty defenses in the Big 12. Oklahoma and Texas had some real beat down games back then. Easily one of the top games of the year to watch.

The Selmon brothers, then later on Brian Bosworth....

Sucks to suck I guess. I loved every second of it.
