Both coached for 12 years at each school.
SEC Reg season records:
Saban 80-13 (83-13 if you count the 3 that were vacated)
Spurrier 82-12
SEC Championship games:
Saban 6-1
Spurrier 5-2
Just for kicks here is Spurrier's record at Florida vs all SEC teams.
Ala - 6-3
Ark - 3-0
Aub - 10-3
UGa - 11-1
Ken - 12-0
LSU - 11-1
Mis - 2-0
MSU - 4-2
Car - 10-0
Ten - 8-4
Van - 10-0
So if any of the youngsters want to know why some of the geezers hate UF and or Spurrier, this is why.

Yes correct, FSU was a thorn in Spurrier and UF's side for sure. And of course Damn Nebraska.

Because Florida was good and Spurrier was the biggest troll at the time. He shite talked Tennessee, FSU, Bama and Georgia like it was part of the job, and did so while kicking their asses.
1999 was fun, winning in Gainesville and stomping Spurrier again in Atlanta.

Yeah he was 6-1 vs Bama up to that point.

Wasn't Mike Dubose the coach then?

Saban is winning in a much tougher SEC.
But Spurrier was a lot more fun to watch and listen to.
Both have changed the game though.

Different era, different rules. I hated UF and Spurrier as much as anyone in the 90’s but the Old Ball Sack was legit and most teams that played the Gators back then were beat before they ever left the locker room. Gene Stallings was very successful at Bama but Spurrier cost him at least a couple more SEC titles. He had Stallings number much like he had everyone else’s back then.

Looks like I inadvertently rustled up some folks which was not my intention. I am not trying to say Spurrier is as good a coach as Saban, just showing that he had a pretty remarkable run in the SEC back in the day.

Spurrier was a good coach, no doubt. However, he had absolutely NO CLASS.
Sure, we UGA fans couldn't stand him because he beat us, but he beat us when UGA was going through one of its most down periods in its history (1990-2000 = 3 losing seasons, two mediocre HC's), so that takes a bit off of Spurrier's allure over UGA.
There's no denying that Spurrier hated UGA far more than any of UF's rivals because he's always held it against the Dawgs ever since UGA beat his tail in 1966, denying Florida the SEC title (Georgia and Alabama tied for the crown instead), and tarnishing his Heisman.
To win is one thing; to do it with class is another, and Spurrier has never had the class to equal his wins--only his mouth.

Yes. Mike Dubose and Gene Chizik each have a season where they beat Spurrier twice.

Biggest difference was recruiting. Spurrier is as good of a football mind as CFB has ever seen.

Alabama didn't have to compete with a yearly final game against a top 5 FSU.

When Bob Stoops knew what a defense was and a few years later took OU to the promised land. If only the Big 12 knew what defense was nowadays that existed in the 90s and early 2000s.

We had it good for a minute there.

Spurrier revolutionized the SEC. I always liked him even though his Florida teams regularly kicked us up and down the field.

The SEC was better for a 3-4 year stretch, but it’s as mediocre top to bottom as any other P5 conference now.
