Oklahoma moved the ball against an elite defense.
The only highlight from that game anyone remembers is Mateer's backwards pass to no one that was scooped and returned 85 yards for a TD the other way.

Switzer never admitted to it, but Larry Lacewell did. Texas had been practicing a quick kick during the week. Lacewell was spying while dressing as a construction worker during the construction of Texas west side upper deck. During that 72 game, OU defense called out the Texas quick kick prior to the snap and blocked the quick kick.
BTW, what happens if Manning and Sarkisian simultaneously pull their heads out their a-holes and each play and coach a complete game? Holy cow.

this will be ugly and look like Tenn and Texas. Lots of sacks, short runs and short passes.
FG game either way

I would like to point out that we put up a whooping 14 spot against the vaunted defense of the Lobos of New Mexico. It might take us 7 quarters to score 23 points against your defense.
Venables will pull out anything and everything for this one, and as you know, weird stuff happens in this game.
We have the better team imo but the better team doesn’t always win.
I was listening to a Texas podcast yesterday, and one of the speakers was talking about a speech he heard DKR give before the game, many years ago..
Paraphrased
“The key to this game is momentum. The team that grabs it and hangs on to it will win the game.”
It sounds so simple, but it’s really true when you think about it. Only 50k fans each, but somehow it feels louder than 100k at times when one team grabs the mo.
It’s intimidating and the energy (good and bad) gets heavy quick. I can’t imagine being on the field. These kids are mostly 18-22 years old, and emotions play a big role.
One key factor that we don’t have this year.
Tre Wisner
That guy was a JAG for most games, but against OU and A&M, he was a monster. I loved the way he played in these games.
Hollywood & Raleek are both better imo, but they’ll have to show up and ball out to match his production. It’s also possible that Venables didn’t scheme against him much for the same reason, so maybe a different scheme makes a difference too..
TLDR: I love this game, but I have no clue who will win, and it’s pretty much the same every year.

One thing that makes a big difference with our offense.. Arch running the ball.
We haven’t seen it much this year, but it all works better when the defense has to account for him.
TBD if Sark cranks it up this week or tries to keep it in his back pocket.

Smothers still wont be 100% so Texas run game will very limited. If Texas plays like they did in Tenn they will lose

Just to be clear, it is your position that if Texas gets 10 sacks against Oklahoma, the Horns lose....right?
My God, for the sake of your family, I hope you don't live near a casino.

If you look at the game objectively, judging by each team's performance this season, GA mops up.

I’d bank on the following:
-two John Mateer interceptions,
-A non-factor Ben Arbuckle offense
-clock mismanagement from Venables
-multiple false starts from the OU offense
-a close defensive first half
-one Arch Manning interception
-two OU field goals
Realistically, Texas should win by 2 touchdowns. Their defensive front will be too much for Mateer, hope I’m wrong.

Starting to get a feeling OU wins this. Listened to an OU pod and they said expect a lot of new things on offense and OU is finally fully healthy

Game is always a toss up, with momentum determining a lot, as one poster said. One of my favorite days, way too crowded at fair, but so fun, a lot of wax cup beers, maybe mixed drink at Old Mill Inn, fletchers corny dog, and always a great crowd and energy. Saturday is suppose to be beautiful, blue skies, 65 in morning and 85 in afternoon.

Dangerous game, blowU needs this to salvage the season and get back on track.
We've been on that end many times in the past and ended up coming home with the golden hat in spite of bringing an inferior squad to Dallas.
That said, unless the gooners have improved their O-line vs last season...Midteer is going to find himself sandwiched between Collin Simmons and Lance Jackson every pass play that doesn't get the ball in the air in under 2 seconds.

It's OU/TX. Anything can happen, but not with this OU team. They ain't it. Congrats UTerus on your victory.
I still think we win, but just sayin

Over the last 25 years, the team who had more rushing yards is 23-2
1) Sounds like we need to have 40+ attempts
14 Smothers
14 Brown
6 Copper
6 Arch
2) OU is in trouble because they do not have a good running game.
3) Win or lose, OU still sucks

For additional clarity and information, after 4 games...
Texas Rushing Defense ranking.....#26 @ 99 ypg.....2.84 yds/rush
Okla. Rushing Defense ranking......#42 @ 116 ypg...3.23 yds/rush
Texas Rushing Offense ranking......#87 @ 147 ypg...3.64 yds/rush
Okla. Rushing Offense ranking.......#131 @ 99 ypg...2.93 yds/rush
Against teams played, I'd guess tOSU is about equal with Georgia except the home field thing. However, Tennessee may be a little stouter than Michigan, both on the road for each team. Pretty much equal defensively.
Texas wins by 10 or more.
Probably comes down to special teams play after all is said and done. Nobodies mention this.
BTW, Oklahoma has a 9 yrds/game advantage in passing offense.
..........Oklahoma has a 50 yrds/game advantage in passing defense

Interesting point. Texas seems to stick to its game plan in the first half, even if it's not working. Then they adjust in the second and look much better.

We have zero chance because of our OL. Your defensive line gets downhill fast. There's not a second lost in attacking the run. You will destroy us unless our coaching staff works a miracle this week.
I expect to be at the gym by halftime.

I would pound the under on this game. Two really good defenses and 2 QBs that struggle with great defenses.
