So if Tennessee offers another QB and that QB leaves his current team high and dry like Nico did then that QB will be loved by Tennessee while Nico is a villain? Isn’t that called being hypocritical? So, Heupel’s a hero today for standing up to a player but when he buys a QB out from under someone else he’s not a villain? Just be consistent. They are all mercenaries from the school Pres to the AD to the coaches and players.

It is and it isn't. The free market brought him his first contract, trying to change the deal after agreeing is less free market to me.

A player leaving for a better offer and "holding out" in spring practice for double the money after an average season are two very different things.

Hopefully this backfires on Nico and blows up in his face, so all the other players think twice before they do something stupid like this.

Tennessee was willing to pay this player 2 million just 2 days ago, now suddenly Huepel is a hero and the QB sucks? I agree he sucks, but Huepel was willing to pay him 2 million. So is Heupel an idiot?

You guys are missing the mark all because of this is happening during spring practice. That has nothing to do with anything other than emotions. If Nico would have left a month ago or next week what difference would it had made? He’d be gone either way.

Tennessee and every other team will now see 5-10 players enter the portal next week. And these same teams, including Tennessee, will sign players who were committed elsewhere last week.

The exact same thing you guys are crushing Nico for. That he did it during spring practice means nothing. Guys did it during the season last year and no one was asking for them to be black balled. My little team, GT, had several players enter the portal before our bowl game. I had no issue with it. It’s all business. Huepel is no hero for justice and Nico is no demon. It’s all just business. If Robert Craft called Heupel tonight and offered him a job he’d be gone tomorrow.

I wonder if Arky fans are getting nervous, knowing that the same tool of a dadvisor is coming their way.

Nah, I think most (if not all) of us expect Madden to never play a down here. His commitment was a surprise to most of us, and it's likely Pittman and BP are gone after this season. He'll transfer out with the coaching change and that is that.

He was sold on BP developing him into Lamar Jackson 2.0, and Arkansas damn sure doesn't have the chunk of money to pay him 2+ million to stay around after a coaching change. If he somehow sticks around for some reason, it's clear he's learned from his brother and father's mistakes and we're playing with house money in that scenario anyway.

I have to admit, my opinion of Heupel has gone up in the last 24 hours.

Frick Heupel.

I'm sure he'd give Nico 10 million if Tenner would pony up.

I don't believe every coach at every school is going to stand with Tennessee on this

Perhaps not but it would be an interesting thing if IamaleftU
can't pick up a ride with a school interested in paying another
$-million or so for a just above average QB , along with the bad vibes he brings with his agents
and Daddy Nic yelling at everybody.

It's funny to me that nearly everyone here sees how this is different than just a player entering the portal and meanwhile, some random poster called RunningJacket is off in left field, confused as shite.

I would say yes. Things have changed for Nico.

You seem to be taking this personally. Are you Nico's dad?

Heupel isn’t a winner if UT has QB issues in the fall and gets the shite kicked out of them. Nothing matters in CFB until it’s time to show the cards in the fall, baby.

The long term benefits of this move will far outweigh the short term negatives.

While everyone is focusing on that POS Nico, UTk has openly admitted to tampering--or as we now call it, "pre-portaling"---to get their replacement QB.

The whole system is rotten, and the hypocrisy is endless..

That's because I think most of us had an understandable misconception of how it was going to be implemented. Many of us thought it would be kinda how the Olympics have done it where athletes can make money advertising for products on television.

Instead it has become pay for play.

He will still get paid to play somewhere though. I just don’t know what school is such a mess that they’re willing to take the risk. Because while Nico’s talent is undeniable, his actual performance was painfully average. I

And more importantly, you just can’t have this kinda shite from your QB

I wonder leadership wise how it's going to work. I think some guys will have a bad impression from the jump. In Tennessee's locker room he was a well liked but quiet guy, which I think makes building those relationships in 4 months harder. Then there's the fact that he just hasn't been as good as advertised.... Bad combo for a guy coming into a new stop.

Also have to remember that he had a year in Tennessee's offense before he started and he was still mediocre. What is 4 months somewhere else going to look like? Unless it was confidence issue last year I don't see it being much better if at all.

Agreed. If the NCAA is going to let these players basically extort these universities then there needs to be contracts like the NFL. this is ruining the sport for me and a lot of other people.
Good for Tennessee for moving on from this arse hat
The universities could collectively put a stop to this, but we all know that won’t happen because winning is the most important thing to most fans.

You're missing the part where Nico was holding out to basically double his pay after a mediocre year. The entire context matters. And he is the first to do it in CFB, and seen as not someone doing it deservedly. He tried to hold the team hostage before the spring game and failed.

I assume Tennessee will take a transfer to compete for the job with the current guys. I don't know if any sure starters are going to be in the portal next week... Maybe, but who knows.

The combination of NIL and transfer portal is one of the worst things to happen to college football. Good on Heupel for not giving in.
