When did NIL start? Did it start in 2013?

Think that Auburn’s traditional issue is that it is like Poland (sandwiched between two larger powers).
If Alabama and Georgia are in disarray (e.g., 1955-58 or late 90s), Auburn is in business. Even if one of the two drops off (Alabama under Shula), Auburn can still be dangerous. But it is difficult to have a top tier team when both teams are hitting on recruiting and player development.
UF faces the same challenges from FSU and Miami but the state is larger than Alabama/GA so you can have three top flight teams at the same time.
LSU has the advantage of a talent rich state to itself and can compete in Mississippi when Ole Miss and MSU are down.
NIL may help expand that reach andI think Freeze has made an effort to expand Auburn’s recruiting reach. However their roster is still very AL/GA- centric in an era where DeBoer and Smart’s staff are killing it in recruiting.

1. Florida - Just because Florida is geographically nicer than Louisiana
2. LSU
3. Arkansas
4. Auburn - only because expectations are too high to be a typically irrelevant program. They fired the only coach to beat Saban-coached Alabama 4 times (once as an OC).

I would hate being the coach at Auburn. Two hours from Tuscaloosa, 2 hours from Athens. They are going nowhere fast with these 2 neighbors rolling

If you look at stats, AU and UF are almost identical.
Both have 8 SEC titles. UF has 3 natties to AU's 2. Both have almost the same number of All-Americans. Both have 3 Heismans. Both have stadiums of 88,000. Both have almost identical football facilities built at the same time. Auburn leads the head-to-head series by a few games, but UF leads it since 1990.
AU is way ahead on undefeated seasons with 12 to Florida's 1. (AU has 3 undefeated season since 1990). But mostly on paper there is nothing separating them.
But really none of this matters in NIL era. Most P4 schools (especially in SEC) can be elite if they spend money. That's what it boils down to.
Finding the right coach is a craps shoot. Most of the active coaches with titles were hired when they were coordinators. You have to take a chance with someone most of the time. From that point on it is a matter of buying a roster. Location doesn't mean much now. Being sandwiched between Athens and Tuscaloosa means nothing when every recruit is for sale.

UF and LSU then auburn then ark.
UF and LSU are equal because the ability to win championships is there and they have access to the best recruits basically the same exact recruits.

LSU basically has a football crazy state to themselves. Auburn and Florida have a lot of competition for talent in their natural recruiting base.
