Must suck to lose to a cadaver two years in a row.

Probably not quite as prestigious as back in the old days simply because there are more bowls now. But Ole Miss gonna make NY6 $$$$$$$$, should be able to afford at least four more Nkimdeches and three Tunsils

My question was about the status if the Sugar bowl, you brought up the 15 year period and 6 sec titles, that's the only reason I went to your website and looked at them.
Posted on 12/7/15 at 6:50 am to Old Sarge
Why didn't you just do that in the first place?

That revenue will be shared, just like any year, so maybe it will help y'all be a little more prepared for future buyouts.

Because my question was about the Sugar Bowl
And I did google it, not much to be found on that subject.
I'm sure there are some books on the history of the sec I could buy and read but why not ask a website full if sec fans?

Pretty sure the Cotton bowl used to be bigger than the Sugar Bowl.
Yes. Back in the day the prestige order was Rose, Orange, Cotton, then Sugar.
The Fiesta became a big deal in the 80's and eventually surpassed them all.
The Cotton was relegated to the bottom until Jerry Jones made it his mission to put it back on the map.
It would make an interesting thread to see how ranters perceive the pecking order today, apart from any playoff rotation tie-ins.

I will take losing to a cadaver every year if it means we win the conference and head to the playoffs. So no, it really doesn't suck at all.

I would say the new system makes the Sugar Bowl, when it's not hosting a CFP game, less prestigious now than it has ever been in the past.

Sugar bowl was a huge deal in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and was still a pretty big deal even in the 00s.
During that period, It was the South's equivalent to the Rose Bowl; where championships were won and lost for a long period of time.
Some of the biggest games in the history of Alabama football were played in the Sugar bowl.
With the playoffs, it has lost some luster but it's still a big deal. Does it feel like a consolation prize now? Yes, sometimes, but so does the Rose Bowl.

This guy is completely wrong btw. The Mizz fan gave a pecking order that is just false.

You are doing some heavy trolling. There is no way any college football fan is oblivious to importance of the sugar bowl. Besides that, if you were really interested in its history, you could have looked it up in seconds.
As to this post I am responding too, one of the titles (60 I believe) is widely recognized. The SEC, the conference you are in, recognizes it. Although, the SEC has been known to make mistakes, for instance, the last expansion.

It used to be more prestigious. Now it's just another bowl game with a better payout.

Very much this. This Sugar Bowl will only be the second in the last 70 years to feature two teams ranked outside the top 10. Coincidentally, the only other time it happened was 2012, when LSU and Bama both went to the BCSNC instead of the Sugar.
That's not to take anything away from the teams playing this year or the Sugar Bowl itself. Two deserving programs and it's always a hell of a time.

Does anyone ever read the OP anymore ????
The OP clearly establishes "past" as over 45 years ago
And another Bama fan has already eared it up that the Sugar bowl was a regional and much smaller bowl pre 1970

So it was a much more regional bowl before 70, that makes sense.
bull shite. the sugar bowl has never been regional. all you have to do is google the participants and see where they came from.

A good rule of thumb when watching old highlights- are there any black players? If so Ole Miss is irrelevant.

I still think it's hilarious how you guys got mega-trolled on national television by the reporter that was showing how everyone was wearing hats with a "3" on them for their " 3 national titles." I have never laughed so hard in my life. So fricking Ole Miss.
