Bama beats Bama more frequently than any other SEC team has beaten Bama.

It’s true.

Back in 1896, Auburn students greased up the railroad tracks before the train brought in the Georgia Tech Football team. The train could not stop until it passed the Auburn terminal for 5 miles. The players had to walk the 5 miles back to the station before the game

Auburn won 45-0

LSU once played Cuba in football.

One 56-0.

In Havana.

Did not smoke cigars on field.

From 2008-2016, Mississippi State never obtained a lead against Alabama.

One of our coaches once kicked in the ref's locker room door at half time to have a "word" with them

In the 1892 UGA/Auburn game, UGA had no official nickname but they used a Goat, named Sir William, as their mascot. Apparently Auburn also brought a mascot, a black man named “Dabble”.

This is how the Wreck Tech Parade started. Every time the game was in Auburn, we'd have a parade where the students would build floats and all dress up in pajamas Use to be a fun rivalry.

The 1961 Sigma Nu prank at the USC-Clemson game.
quote:

In 1961 before the Carolina-Clemson game, members of the Carolina chapter of Sigma Nu borrowed uniforms from Orangeburg High School and made their way on to the field at Williams-Brice to imitate the Clemson team during warm-ups, complete with pretending to milk cows, punting backwards over their heads, bumbling through plays and more. It took a few minutes for the Clemson crowd to catch on, but once they did, they were not happy

Clemson fans realized what was going on and stormed the field and melee ensued.
quote:

The level of description for what ensued varies depending on t he storyteller, everything from "melee" to "ruckus" to "brawl", but Hancock said it was more of a scuffle than a vicious fight between the two sides. He also said ticket allocation was very different then, and the entire east side of the stands was filled with Clemson fans so the Tiger fans weren't quite as outnumbered as they would be today.

Additionally, the University of Georgia was the first state-chartered university in the country.

It was built upon land designated for the purpose by John Milledge on the Oconee River, the dividing line between the state of Georgia and the Creek Indians. It was a true frontier town.

Auburn was granted permission to not participate in football in 2012 and resume the next season. Only team I know of to ever get such an agreement in the SEC.

My elementary school in the early 80s in Baton Rouge had some LSU book on the bookshelf that I would pick up and pour over whenever we had free time to do as we pleased.

This fact stood out to me as interesting:

LSU played Santa Clara in the Sugar Bowl.
Twice.
And lost both times.

After the 1936 and 1937 seasons. LSU lost one other game over that two year span: a 7-6 loss to Vandy.

Santa Clara has only been to 3 bowl games ever and disbanded the football team after the 1992 season. They never lost a bowl game (their other win was over Kentucky in the 1950 Orange Bowl). Their only loss in 1936 or 1937 was to Sammy Baugh and TCU.

Santa Freaking Clara.
