This was a step worse than Tubberville's pine box

D.
Still don’t get the uproar. He left a middle of the road program for one of the top 2-3 jobs in the sport. He’s getting a massive raise and will have a significantly better quality of life because of it.
If Schloss left Baylor for the Texas job, my guess is the Baylor fans would be disappointed, but understanding. Aggies just have a massive sense of entitlement, despite having no historical success.

Worst move ever. You have to be a low-life to even consider it. Trash human imo.

Well except the part Notre Dame isn’t within a 3 hour drive and a Big Rival.
But other than that you are right. lol

This is Jonny Damon level bad when Damon left the Red Sox for the Yankees. Damon said he would never ever play for the Yankees and loved Boston, and he left for the Yankees the next year.
Schloss remarks at the press conference will never be forgotten.

Yes, you better get some popcorn. Don’t think for a second that A&M will sit idle and let this happen. If you think they won’t come after Vitello and Jay Johnson, you’re naive. Money talks, and A&M has plenty of it. Don’t kid yourself, … LSU and TN can’t compete in that arena.
The market has been reset.
College football has been ruined, and college baseball is not far behind.

What? The only reason I wouldn’t put it “all time” is because it’s just baseball, but this is basically the worst move that I’ve ever seen. It cannot get any worse.
1) A&M was just in the CWS
2) Texas is their biggest rival
No other move I’ve ever seen comes close. People bring up Saban to Bama… not even close. Saban left for Miami, which sucked, but likely would’ve taken the LSU job had Miles not just won a natty or if our AD wasn’t too proud. I’m not sure when Saban asked for his job back, if it was after the 2007 natty or right before.

It’s a little weird to leave a school for a hated rival immediately after contending for a national championship, but that’s an indictment on the school, not the coach. I don’t see anything wrong with wanting a better job, and more money.

Think about how mad we as LSU fans were when Saban left the NFL for Alabama. That was coming to the same conference with time spent in the NFL. Saban did not shite on LSU. He went to pursue an NFL dream. It didnt work out and he took the best gig possible (just so happened to be bama). Bama was not, nor will be LSU's primary rival. That was a 9/10 Richter scale situation
Quitting the day after losing a natty to run to your bitter rival as they slide into the conference is a 12/10

Pretty rough....
They finally compete at a national Championship level and lose, then lose the HC to their greatest rival. Dude.... This is bad!

For me quite honestly I never reacted that way towards Nick.
He went to the NFL it didn’t work out and ended up back in the SEC.
I really didn’t care, I loved Nick for putting us back on the map.
Had he left us directly and went somewhere maybe, but he turned us around and brought us a Title and some of my fondest memories as a fan.

Wait until Schloss tries to warm up to the aTm fans... tells a couple of Aggie jokes... he'll experience more venom.

You imagine if this happened if the student body was in session?

Hard to remember a bigger dick slap.
Not that bad considering Kiffin was a former USC coach and had spent his entire pre-Tennessee coaching career on the west coast. Not to mention, USC was viewed as a much stronger program than Tenn. at the time.
Surprising because of his success at OU. But I think you could at least form an argument that in the new age of NIL Los Angeles would be more attractive than Norman for recruits.
I can't think of a change that really rivals this one. Maybe Tuberville from Ole Miss to Auburn. But even that one isn't on the same level. For a few reasons. Texas has a much greater baseball history than A&M. But not at the moment. That was because of Schloss. He was having great success at A&M: 3 seasons, 2 CWS appearances, 1 NC game appearance. It's not like he had to go elsewhere because he tapped out the potential A&M. They were as close to winning a NC as one could be without doing so. Also, it's not like A&M is a school with no money. They can (and likely would have) pay him a very high salary. This wasn't a jump from, say, Arizona to LSU where LSU will clearly pay top dollar for a HC while Arizona just doesn't have a big desire to do so. It couldn't have been strictly a money issue.
Even worse than it being a defection to a hated rival is the fact not only Schloss, but the entire A&M staff clearly made the decision to bolt well before the championship game. I don't know how long before that decision was reached, but it was clear they coached most of (maybe all) of the CWS knowing they were bailing. Which leads to the question: "Did the A&M administration know that? Or were they blindsided by the defection?
The icing on the cake was jumping on the A&M reporter's arse in response to a question about a job he knew he AND much of his staff had ALREADY accepted. A response where he made himself out to be the greatest guy in the world for taking the A&M job knowing in less than 24 hours in would be announced he was leaving.
