I don't believe there are 38 players better than andrew thomas. He's an OL so he's not flashy and doesn't score TDs but he's got to be one of the most valuable players in america and will be a surefire first round pick after his true junior season. Probably the #1 tackle taken.

May be true, but he has one of the lowest grades from last year of that entire Top 50 list, so #38 seems like they went out of their way to prop him up even more than potentially deserved.

Hell.. I love JR Reed, but he's definitely not more valuable or a better player than Andrew Thomas. I am 99.9% confident he would agree with that statement as well. I'm certain the NFL draft will agree.

He's the #1 safety. Here is his write up

quote:

If it weren’t for missed tackles, Delpit could be even higher on this list as he has plus-grades in run-defense, pass-rush and especially in coverage. He’s recorded the nation’s second-most pressures at the safety position as he brought in 13 on just 39 blitz attempts while making 22 defensive stops. In coverage, Delpit has made 19 total plays on the ball over the past two seasons including six interceptions while he drastically improved his coverage grade from Year 1 to Year 2. He didn’t allow a reception longer than 32 yards in 2018 and saw just a 57.3 passer rating as the primary coverage defender. The aforementioned missed tackle woes aside (16 MT on 81 attempts), SEC quarterbacks should expect to see and hear a lot of Delpit this season.

If A Thomas isn't in the top 10 this list is shite. If Swift isn't in the top 50 this list is shite. If Fromm isn't in the top 20 this list is shite.

I find it hard to believe that one of our LB's doesn't make this list.

Out of curiosity, what does their methodology consist of for evaluating play by play... seemingly this takes strength and caliber of athlete on the opposing team and minimizes it significantly. Most all of the stats they point to for RBs for example are greatly exaggerated by playing poor teams... YPC, missed tackles forced, etc.

Given that we see precisely zero SEC RBs, and instead 2 Oklahoma RBs, Clemson, and Wisconsin, it would seem that racking up/padding stats is most important for some of the positions. I like Jonathan Taylor and would definitely have him in my top 50. Etienne as well. But both Oklahoma RBs? definitely not.

Yep - truly don't know. I like their general system, but their grades have left me scratching my head more than a few times.

PFF’s college stuff is very odd, generally.

Hard to believe with all of the 5 stars we have recruited that this guy is the top UGA player. @ star afterthought transfer from Tulsa, brought in to make sure his cousin (now at UT) signed with us. Kid has a great story.

It is a great metric in the NFL where stats basically impart the same meaning regardless of opponent due to the fact that the overall talent delta between the best and worst team is minimal.

In college, in my opinion, the numbers are devalued tremendously due to the fact that talent and quality of opponent can vary so widely that mere aggregated stats can’t fully illuminate an individuals talent, value, or projections at the next level.

Football outsiders has a good power and efficiency rating system, but it's just for teams in college. It'd be nice to see something like that for the players, but that would take a ton of man power.
