He’s got a great record at Memphis and great recruiter in the south.

As KY coach his first point of order will be to distribute half the tickets in Rupp to black folk because there is too much white priviledge in Rupp arena

Yeah, I don't know. If you're Kentucky looking at
Penny's Memphis record , you're not going to be real impressed.

2018–19 Memphis 22–14 11–7 5th NIT second round
2019–20 Memphis 21–10 10–8 T–5th
2020–21 Memphis 20–8 11–4 3rd NIT Champion
2021–22 Memphis 22–11 13–5 3rd NCAA Division I Round of 32
2022–23 Memphis 26–9 13–5 2nd NCAA Division I Round of 64
2023–24 Memphis 22–10 11–7 T–5th
Memphis: 133–62 (.682) 69–36 (.657)
Total: 133–62 (.682)

Kentucky cats hiring Hardaway because they miss on others. Hardaway fits what they need from a recruiting perspective and ability to work the transfer portal.

Penny hardaway feels like late calapari. Seems like he would pick up right where cal left off.

Dayum I'm getting old.

I interviewed him, for Dave Telep, when he was still a junior at Memphis Treadwell HS.

Penny was a good kid who overcame a rough, parentless childhood in a wicked neighborhood in North Memphis (in the same HS as my Mom and Dad) ... but his grandmother, Lisa was her name if I remember correctly, she was a sweetheart.

He actually got me tickets, a few years later, to a Magic game after I ran into him on the Mt Dora golf course.

He'd probably do really well in Lexington tbh. He's gotta be in his 50s by now because that had to be at least 34 or 35 years ago when I did that interview. I kinda hope that UK actually does hire him. It would probably be a perfect fit now that he's out of his shell.

What was the name of that movie he was in with Nick Nolte and Shaq? The one where Nolte was basically playing the Bobby Knight character?

"Blue Chips"

Nolte was playing John Wooden and the colors of the Bruins was not an accident for the team colors in the movie. While "fiction" it was probably the most accurate book or movie made about the Wooden Era at UCLA once "Papa Sam" showed up and seems to fit the Walsh character portrayed in the move. Great film if you have never seen it and one of the extras in the reporters groups of extras went on to work behind the scenes in Hollywood on some big budget pics.

Man, I am getting ancient then my friend.

For those who never heard of Papa Sam, here is a LINK and this quote.

He is best known as a controversial athletic booster of the UCLA Bruins men's basketball team from the mid-1960s until UCLA was ordered to disassociate from him in 1981. He ran a money-laundering enterprise ...

I wouldn’t put it past Barnhart to hire an underwhelming coach. He doesn’t have the first clue on how to evaluate the record and stats of a coach when looking at potential candidates.

Barnhart doesn't hire the basketball coach alone since the Gillespie debacle. He didn't hire Cal, the Board did.
