list some of em then

most colleges have a strip of restaurants, bars, clothing stores, etc next to campus even if it is not the city's downtown area. that's what i mean

You said it. You list them.

And that is not the same thing as a downtown, which, again, was your word.

The Corner at UVA seems like a little downtown area although it is not downtown C'ville.

i'm talking about stuff being right next to campus.

just admit Ole Miss takes a big L in this metric. lol

Yes the town is small but I go there for work all the time and it’s hands down a great place to raise a family along with Athens. Friends of mine that went there say after 2 years on campus it does get old. The square is very nice and yes the Ole Miss crowd thinks way too highly of themselves. I live in Baton Rouge and i would pick Oxford over it any day to live. After all I am 44 not 22

I know its probably strange to go out in a college town and not get mugged or shot. That doesn't make it boring though.

State fans you’re making the point when you’re arguing about Kroger‘s and KFC and waffle houses you are talking about what you think are classy establishments. Oxford is a much better town than Starkville and you can look at the price of houses the average medium income in the crime rates and they’re not even close. Starkville does have more gang activity so you have that going for you
As far as nicer hotels and nicer places to eat Starkville is not even close

Oxford is a middle of the road town in the SEC. Athens, Nashville, and Fayetteville are definitely better. Could make an argument that Tuscaloosa and Knoxville have become better over the past 5 years. I really wish we could trade the Mississippi schools for North Carolina and Duke. The Mississippi Schools bring nothing to the table.

I’m biased, of course, but there isn’t a better one. Fayetville and Athens are the only ones even close.
