Oxford is a very nice place. The local schools are good and they are public so you don’t have to pay a fortune for school.
This is a very deep south thing to say. (or inner-city thing to say) This gives perspective on why Mississippians in general are excited about Oxford. It's surrounded by a landscape where paying private fees for decent schools is the norm, because everything is so shitty in general.
The strangest thing about this thread is the discussion about Kroger. The most surprising thing about both Oxford and Starkville is how tiny they are. Most of Mississippi towns are small towns. Even the suburbs of Jackson are pretty small places.
Starkville and Oxford are both smaller than Russellville, Arkansas--home of Arkansas Tech Univeristy.
That's a little nowhere town that nobody's ever heard of with 11,000 college students, and requisite faculty and staff.
Oxford is a nice town, though, if boring apart from certain times of year. OP is mad.

Don't shutter, bro.
Fayetteville experience would be superior, with a lot more to offer than "you can eat here, and drink there, and eat AND drink there".
Sorority row at Arkansas shits on everybody in the SEC, except Bama. Palatial houses (several of the largest greek houses in the country are on Sorority Row), and hot women.

But do you "shudder" as well when you think about it?

Seems like this was thread was responsible for all of the grocery store threads this morning.
Two MS school fanbases blathering about which town had shittier stores served as the catalyst for today's reaction

One school. It started with a Miss. State poster blabbing about Kroger. Yes-it drew responses, but its genesis was all Miss. State.

When I read the responses to this thread that first night, I was laughing so hard

it was probably faster to manually find this thread then to type in Kroger in the search box

No need for Kroger or KFC when you can get your chicken on a stick from a classy gas station

Oxford has a Popeyes. Nobody goes to KFC anymore.

KFC is for people too bland to enjoy actual chicken. Happy its trash arse got run out. There’s also a Gus’s in town, which is better than whatever bullshite bird they’re serving up elsewhere in the conference (outside of Nashville, assuming Prince’s comes back)
