That is exactly how the SEC thrived. Funny you say it doesn't work then you go to a conference where that is the lynchpin.

Now we’re getting somewhere in the conversation. Texas has ALWAYS been looking for this type of relationship with its conference mates. The problem has been the imbalance between the have and have not schools. If the Big XII could have had revenue sharing and produced enough tv money to be in the neighborhood with the SEC and B1G we would have never left. The issue was that in the Big XII that would not have been the case, it knee capped Texas ability to recruit and compete nationally.

The Big XII was essentially asking Texas to forfeit all its fertile recruiting ground to the SEC and B1G and forfeit its natural resource advantage, fall behind the B1G and SEC financially as well, forfeit the fact that it’s a national brand that draws more eyeballs than everyone but Notre Dame and play on a third tier tv package. And do all of this so that Iowa State, Baylor, TCU, can maintain the illusion that they’re competing at the highest levels. Oh, and make all these sacrifices while being absolutely loathed by the schools you’re propping up.

The Longhorn Network was an attempt to both prop up all the welfare Big XII schools while giving Texas an opportunity to get whole again on the side. Nobody really loved that either preferring instead a conference TV network. Nevermind that Texas was the visionary here initially proposing the Big XII conference network as a solution to these problems. Yeah, it was widely rejected by everyone (nobody thought it would work). Next Texas goes to A&M and proposes a Lone Star Network. They tell us to pound sand. So Texas goes it alone and everyone leaves.

Texas will be quiet as a church mouse in the SEC. Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee (and that’s not an exhaustive list) are plenty of firepower to pull along the few SEC schools who don’t produce at the same levels. It’s a balanced healthy marriage of schools that have the same primary goal — compete for championships in football.

Never thought I'd agree with a Texas fan LOL, but you're right. When two schools are bringing in all the B12 money, and the other bottom feeders wanted an equal share, it didnt make sense to star anymore.

Conference expansion was the beginning of the end of good college football.

I miss the Big 10 only having 11 teams

I miss the Pac 10

I miss the Old SEC with 6 and 6

I miss the Big 12

Heck I even miss the Big East

So, are you admitting that the Big 12 is an inferior conference and that Oklahoma can't win in the SEC?

No, the SEC thrived by having 5 Texases in a conference of 10.

Arkansas HC Jack Crowe:

"Let me tell you something, Frank: We have a hard time beating Texas here. There's five Texases over there. Five."

Honestly the death of the big east, was the end. Once it went, everything else was up for grabs.

You should double check the data if you believe that to be true. And on top of that, they did not see themselves better than the vandys of the world. That isnt anything like texas.

Joining the SEC has destroyed Oklahomas football and basketball programs.

Honestly, you need to give it some time. Your problem in football is the questionable HC you hired. Upgrade there and you'll gain more consistency. That being said, your days of winning conference championships regularly are over, no matter who you hire.

The Big 12 and the ACC's current makeup will be lucky to survive.

More cannibalization is sure to come.

Sooner football started the decline the day Stoops turned over the team to Lincoln Riley

Bob stoops got curb stomped in back to back post seasons by Clemson before calling it quits. 40-6 and 37-17. It was in decline while Riley was still at ecu.

If it makes you feel better we’ve all sold our souls. Join FCS if you want a soul.

The 6 teams who’ve joined the SEC sold our souls in 3 pairings and the original SEC schools sold their souls 3x. Bringing in money for a diluted schedule every year.

They sit here and complain about “losing rivalries” when their own presidents did this to themselves three times in a row and will do it again 4th time any day now when the ACC begins to crack.

We all cash checks, build bigger buildings, buy better players, out price common fans. The SEC, it just means more…money.

Just win baby.

Hell they weren't using it nohow.....

I think OU is about where they would have always been had they been in a conference ever that required playing more than 2 teams a year with a pulse....I think they would have always been Ole Miss or Auburn in a real conference.

I missed the mark a little on Texas - I did not think they would fare any better because they have also never been in a conference where they played more than a few games a year against similarly talented teams. They have done far better than I thought they would in the SEC. It isn't by chance though, the current state of CFB is conducive to schools with a lot of money being able to operate at a level they haven't operated at in years....its the inverse of where Alabama is currently where stacking 4 and 5 stars 3 deep is not as easy.

Not a slam against Alabama, they played the game better than anyone the least 2 decades (nearly) of "normal" CFB.

The old Southwest Conference was once pretty good too. Some great matchups then … and my first exposure to CFB as a youngster.

Oh, and just to set the record straight, Oklahoma sold its soul back when Switzer was at the helm …..

Big 12 used to dominate SEC back in the 90s.

That's a 4 year period - the BIG12 started in 1996. That's less than 4% of the entirety of the history of programs that have been part of the BIG12. Not sure that is a point of pride....

This is the main reason the playoffs were expanded to 24 IMO.
To many money people that are used to success not going to be happly loosing 3-5 games a year.

It will be a temporary ointment applied to those wealthy but chapped cheeks....the next phase for wealthy donors is to try to influence the game through gambling and all that that entails - and they will prove to be very inept at doing so without leaving piles of evidence in their wake.

its naive to think CFB hasn't always been impacted by gambling but the growth of opportunity will open the door to idiots who aren't smart enough to make an attempt and not leave mountains of evidence of their felonious ways like the people who have successfully pulled it off in the past. The table is set with the acceptance of horrendous officiating and inexplicable "down" games by otherwise gifted and talented players and coaches.

The SEC was 5-3 vs the Big 12 in the 1990s (in football):

I hate to break this too you but LSU ....ummm .... sucked in the 90's and we played a pretty solid A&M program for 6 years straight... 5-1 Aggies....

There is probably more missing... so that is currently SEC 6 - 8 Big 12

LSU played A&M from 1990-1995. The Big 12 wasn't even formed yet, and A&M was still in the SWC.
