I guarantee every coach in the country outside of LSU wants Ole Miss to win for precedent. Then they wouldn’t be in the spot to take the PR hit.

It is hard enough in the portal to form a roster. When players sign contracts it locks them in. There is no NLI anymore. Players just ripping up contracts can’t happen without penalty.

No one is saying they can’t play or shouldn’t have left. But the contract stated if you break the contract you owe x dollars. They didn’t pay. It’s a legal issue not an NCAA one.

They kids were happy with their deal. LSU came in late and offered more. Ole Miss didn’t match. They left but all parties knew about the buyout. They decided to not pay. Now they are getting sued. You can say it’s bad PR but the players are legally obligated to pay the buyout.

It says “we want you to publicly come out and say you are willing to sue someone bc they decided they wanted to play elsewhere”.

It’s easier imo for LSU to defend this to a transfer or recruit by saying “we told them we were going to pay it, we just wanted Ole Miss to publicly say they were willing to sue players”

Now it’s a given. Think long and hard before you sign with Ole Miss.

My prediction is that no player at least returning player is going to look to sign with OM until very late in the process as a result of this.

Completely agree that it’s bad PR but legally at issue and this will be a cautionary tale for need for contract attorneys for college football players.

Sad that this is even a topic but it is modern CFB.
