That's weird, Sankey didn't seem to know that.

It's not that clear and it's because the SEC was lazy in their ruling. It says signs "a contract with an NFL team". It draws no distinction between a camp participation agreement and an NFLPA CBA qualifying agreement.

It's not. That's the issue. Again, Sankey testified under oath on the stand that once you decide to leave school that you should not be allowed to come back. It's a stupid rule that is trying to cover for the dumbass decision that was made to not include the 2022 class in the 5 for 5 ruling which Sankey also testified under oath that he had not seen before yesterday. So, he is either incompetent or he is lying under oath to protect himself from something else. Either way is a black eye for the SEC and the powers that be have the rest of the country focused on LSU when this is an NCAA problem.

When was this rule made?

Do you have a copy of it? I've honestly never seen it.

Stankey would tell me that the OU situation is #JustDifferent. LSU should be punished for all schools playing these “pros”.

According to the SEC policy, an athlete cannot appear on an SEC roster if he has:
1. Declared for the NFL Draft and failed to properly withdraw.
2. Signed a contract with an NFL team or another professional football league.
3. Appeared on or been listed on an NFL or other professional football league roster.

Braxton Felt declared for the draft, went through the draft process, and did not properly withdraw, just like the offensive lineman at Texas.

First, his name is Braxton Fely.
Secondly, he did not declare for the draft. he was a senior that used up his 4 years of eligibility, therefore did not have to declare. He was automatically placed in the draft.
Neither nor Hutson declared. neither were drafted and neither were offered UDFA contracts.

So how did he end up in an NFL mini camp?

He declared for the draft, right? That would make him ineligible according to the SEC unless he properly withdrew his name. Did he?

Or did he just declare and not get drafted?

Neither.

He was a player that no longer had eligibility and was automatically entered into the draft pool. There is no withdrawal process for those automatically entered into the draft pool.

This is the core of the whole argument for the 5 for 5 players in that they had no choice to be in or out of the NFL Draft until 2 months after the NFL Draft when the NCAA approved the 5th years.

The SEC is now just picking and choosing who gets the 5th year based upon how far the players got in the NFL evaluation process (Drafted > UDFA > Minicamp Tryout).

An invite to tryout for a contract.

Us LSU fans need to start knowing what the rules were and getting consistent with what we are arguing.

Trying to argue against the new SEC rule of declaring for draft / withdrawing from draft is a losing argument because it is factually incorrect to say players declared for the draft when those players could not declare or withdraw from the draft.

We can argue about the contract rule because the SEC was too ambiguous / vague with the wording of a contract and what is considered to be a contract. If the minicamp invitees signed any sort of document that could legally be viewed as any form of contract, this could be a winning argument against the new SEC rules and the SEC’s selective enforcement of the rules against the training camp / preseason player vs the minicamp invitees.

To be fair, I can't expect SEC fans to understand the distinctions if Sankey doesn't.

You can either be drafted.
You can go undrafted, but offered a UDFA contract.
Or you can send a written request for an invite as an UDFA without a contract. That is how it is done. IF the NFL team deems a player is worth a look they can send an invite without a contract to a player, then the player signs a waiver releasing the team from liability for injuries.

Wight and Harris were signed as UDFA to an UDFA contract. Hutson nor Webb were drafted and neither were extended UDFA contracts, so they requested an invite.

A waiver was signed. Yes. If you can show me where they were offered a contract, I would be happy to apologize. Neither ever showed up on an NFL roster.

As I said in another thread, I would be upset, too because they were in the draft and went to the camps before the 5 to play 5 rule came out. The NCAA messed it up completely.

I’ve already showed you that Bro.

A contract is nothing more than an agreement between two parties.

“I agree to accept your invite to rookie mini camp in exchange for XXX”

^^^
That is a contract where “XXX” stands for per diem.

The biggest argument I think LSU fans should be making is the players had already taken action that the SEC feels made them ineligible BEFORE the NCAA rule came out for the 5 to 5 rule. I can see where an exception could and probably should be applied under that argument.

The players might not have taken those steps had the NCAA timed the rule change better.
My only guess as to why the NCAA wants to stonewall this is that one exception always seems to lead to another and another, so they want to just say, "Sorry, not sorry."
