Good for OP, but why are people acting like he was an alcoholic?
Alcohol 1 or 2 times a week in not a big deal
I think his binge drinking few times a month is the excessive part

The logic is not that swimming is just as dangerous as motorcycles. The logic is that avoiding the thing itself (motorcycle) is the only way to avoid dying on a motorcycle in the city. That's a silly jump to conclusions. There are a variety of ways to avoid death and dismemberment that fall short of simply not ever riding a bike. In the same way that there are a variety of ways short of simply not entering the water is the way to avoid drowning.
You keep using examples that are not comparable because the high risk factor is not considered.
Better use would be Automobile collisions vs Motorcycle collisions on the roadway.
Cars/Trucks make up 95% of transportation on all roads
Motorcycles make up 3% of transportation on all roads
----per vehicle miles traveled, motorcyclists are nearly 5 times more likely to be injured and 28 times more likely to die in a crash compared to people in passenger cars...
quote:
This is the kind of logic that stops certain groups from swimming.
100% of the people that drown, went into the water.
100% of the shark attacks were from the same.
Therefore, just stay out of the water and you'll never drown, get stung by a jellyfish or munched on by any variety of water-borne creatures..
It's not my logic or opinion, it's statistical data. Apples : Oranges comparing debilitating effects getting stung by a jellyfish to getting hit on a motorcycle and getting killed or IMO worse....getting injured at 20yrs old and paralyzed.
quote:
And just because you get a motorcycle, doesn't mean you throw all safety consciousness out the window. It's like just because I have a gun doesn't mean I am playing russian roulette.
Problem is you can do all the right things...helmet, leathers/gear, safety course but that means nothing when an F250 runs a redlight / someone not paying attention and you get hit....happens Every.Single.Day.
quote:
Lots of things are potentially dangerous. It's knowing and assessing risk moment to moment that is how people don't all end up wounded or dead. I could go on for hours. There are numerous things that are very dangerous that we take for granted because we've become accustomed to them.
I've treated hundreds upon hundreds of motorcycle patients over my career. I'm not trying to tell anyone how to live their life, just providing firsthand knowledge / insight.
quote:
As long as you're doing what you want to do. I'm not trying to say everyone should get one. I'm saying if you want to, but don't because you've seen/heard some awful story - then that's no way to live.
There is risk/reward in everything...but some have a higher probability of coming to fruition than others.
Riding a street bike in a large city is a major gamble, 4 out of 5 people who ride in the city will get injured or killed.
It's up to the person if they want to take those odds.
