Reading words verbatim should not get people fired. Next we'll be firing people for reading To Kill a Mockingbird out loud.
ETA: If they wouldn't have fired a black coach for this, then this is discrimination.

I think Gundy has been there a long time. To stay there that long I have no doubt he loves OU and the OU football program.
He most likely did resign bc his love for the program made him not want any stress or distractions to come from the media or OU administration that would make a big deal out of this.

This is everything I am hearing. Get in front and let it blow over. If this gets handled internally and leaks out weeks or years later its a terrible look.
Right wrong or indifferent, it's 2022 and white coaches can't say that word regardless of context. He knows that, or at least he understands that now.

Yes
I didn’t even want to get into the politics of it.
But Gundy handling it this way easily tells me he is a solid individual and cares for the program. Hopefully others see it this way and do not twist it in another way.

OU released a statement saying he said it multiple times in the meeting.

Not really. He's still just reading text from the player. I dont think it matters that it was a couple of times vs 1.

Probably at least 3 times.
This isn't about being woke or cancel culture or any of that crap. A white guy can't be dropping multiple N-bombs. The Gundys are known idiots, like the Pelinis. The world is better of without them.

It's just sad that a man loses his job and maybe his career for reading what one of his players wrote. I wonder what the team thinks about this (is he a popular coach?). And truly, what was accomplished?

OU seems to have this kind of thing happen with leaked videos as well right?

So university administration is running the football team now. Gee. Nothing could go wrong with that.

It's exactly that.

I don't condone it but they weren't his words. He was just reading the players text. It's really not the end of the world.

It’s 2022 and you’re coaching all black players. You can’t say that over and over
OU fans are in denial. What else is new

OU should be embarrassed on how their administration handled this whole thing.

That group looks extremely diverse but probably all have the exact same thoughts and opinions. Is that truly diverse if they are all the same person just in different appearances?
Even in appearance it's not diverse at all: Not one white (25-30% of population) or black male (6.5% of population) and only 1 male (50% of population) and 5 females. It's ridiculous.
This country has gone mad.

Diversity in everything but thought. Inclusive only if you think like them. Equity is a race to the bottom.
Seriously, when are we going to wake up from this nightmare?

Equity would be the player also losing his position with the team. But we all know none of this is really about equity.

If reading a players own words gets your coach fired
then OU football is FKd.

Couldn't happen to a bigger a-hole than BV. I love a good train wreck.
