Now that college is full on semi-pro why would anyone watch it over the NFL?

No player familiarity. Whole new teams every year. What does college have to offer that is better than the NFL?

Because I’m trapped in this forever and my fee-fees won’t allow me to give it up.

I stopped watching the NFL when they started kneeling during the National Anthem.

University affiliation.
UGA class of '75 here.
There's is obviously great football in the NFL with the best college players but when the league and players went political/woke, they lost me.

Because they are local and many of us got degrees there. The nearest pro team to me is the Bengals and them being a pro team is debatable. It’s an identity. Home boys. Traditional.
No pro teams in most states.

I'd venture to say there's currently much more familiarity and stability in the NFL, on a year to year basis, at this point.

The team I follow isn’t this way

UGA class of '77... Some of the best years of my life. Basically grew up and became a man in Athens Ga. Lotta shite learned and experienced that can never be taken away.
CFB is just... different imo.
NFL is OK but will never be the same. Kinda feel sorry for peeps up north that didn't have my youth, Falcons are ok but will never be like a Saturday in Athens... JMO

Every NFL game I try to watch, outside of playoffs, feels stale and dispassionate. Even on TV, there's no pageantry or spirit in the stadiums like there is in college. And the games don't seem to mean as much until the end of the season.

Give it time. As power is shifting towards the kids on the field, CFB will follow suit.

When free agency became more frequent it felt like this for the NFL (and other pro sports)... I remember when my favorite players were always associated with one specific team:
Derrick Thomas was a Chief
Barry Sanders was a Lion
Dan Marino was a Dolphin
Don Mattingly was a Yankee
Tony Gwynn was a Padre
Then college did it and did it a LOT worse. You still have franchise players in the NFL, and players don't just get to leave when they feel like it.
So yes, part of the love of the game is watching the players grow up...

Why'd you change it from '75 to '77? Scared GurleyGirl above might figure out she's the one to "make you a man"?

The NFL is like eating at a high end chain restaurant... Food is really good... but it is still a chain.
College may be headed that way... but it has 130 years of built in tradition to slow that down. And with some policy changes it can still be salvaged.
Re implementing the one year sit out rule would be a really good first step but it needs to be an NCAA policy.

You know must of us are stuck with this sport until the day we die, hard to shake something that has been baked into your traditions since a young age. But one thing (of many) that made college football special was the passion and loyalty amongst the players to their schools, and watching kids develop over four years. So your points against college ball in 2026 are valid. Specifically, with the proliferation of one-year mercenaries, it's becoming harder to pretend any of those 22 guys on the field really give a shite or will even be there next year.

Because there is absolutely zero chance an a-hole owner will get pissed at a city government for not agreeing to line his pockets and move the team to a different city.

Please. Let me keep my delusion of amateur athletes playing for the pure love of the game and their school and not because they’re getting paid $3 million.
