Non LSU Fans - What Is the Deal With Bama Fans and Tenn?

So for like 99% of college football the team you designate as a "primary rival" is usually a team you hate. Fans talk down about their primary rival, celebrate their failures, and overall do their best to be anti that rival team.
Except for Bama fans with Tenn.
It seems like EVERY time we have one of those almost daily "is the Tenn program dead?" threads, the Bama fans jump out of the woodwork to remind us all that "Tenn has the second most SEC titles!" or some other leather helmet statistic. Bama fans will compliment parts of the Tenn program and sometimes even try to sell the omni-present argument of "Tenn is back, just no one knows it yet!" To see them compliment Butch or some of the players is surreal.
So I ask most of tRant and especially OG SEC teams: what is going on there? It feel like some sort of weird weird bromance, and normally us Aggies know our bromances but this is off the charts!
Now for the reason I excluded LSU fans, this should be obvious but I will still state it because I don't want the whole thread to be that argument. LSU fans are excluded because:
1. Yall don't have a primary rival so you lack a framework to conceptualize the issue and
2. Yall will say its "because Bama wants Tenn to seem legitimate so they have a reason to fist us with Florida every year" or some shite like that, and I want real answers not a schedule thread.

Unless you were saying that Bama fans respect history more than your average fan, so the fact that Tenn was once mighty carries weight with them and that is why they are always defending Tenn- they want others to respect that history. That is kinda of an answer, but it seems a fan of a program like Bama would be the first to endorse some sort of survival of the fittest.

Sure sure, I get that. You can give them credit for a good win or team and give them respect when they are a good program.
But what Bama does with Tenn is beyond anything that fits into the category of general fan "respect."
Most of the time when your historical rival sucks the go-to is to talk down to them and NOT build them up like Bama fans do. Like USC fans do with Clemson now, or like Texas did to us during our crap decade when they would be happy to tell anyone when we came up "we don't even care to discuss them, they aren't really rivals." Condescension is the traditional way to handle a streak against a rival throughout the college football universe- except at Bama.
I mean, Bama has like three teams that want to be rivals with it. They could just focus on Auburn or LSU and basically forget Tenn exists or at least treat them like us Aggies now treat SMU. But instead Bama fans keep running interference for Tenn, well beyond what I would call respect.
And it can't just be the schedule thing because its not just this one game that keeps the shitty perm rival thing going.

Because for many Bama fans, especially ones over the age of 40 or 50, Tennessee is their main rival. It dates back to the 60's and 70's when Auburn wasn't as competitive as they started to be in the 80's. Some also use it as a slight to Auburn.
Any Bama fan that still claims Tennessee is our biggest rival is either trolling Auburn fans, is old, or is a dumbass.

It's because they want Tenn to seem legit to make us playing UF every year seem like a fair deal. I know this because I can conceptualize the idea of a primary rival.

Oh, and for many years it was a very respectful rivalry. We both hated each other, but there was a lot of mutual respect between the two programs, and between Bryant and Neyland.

Alabama has a real rival; they are called Auburn.
to protect the bama vs ut series at the expense of the rest of the conference sucks. it's NOT just about schedule parity, it's about NOT BEING ABLE TO PLAY OTHER GREAT SEC SCHOOLS for the rest of us. unless we go to a 9 game SEC slate, the rest of us simply get screwed. in LSU's case, that means WE hardly ever get to face USCe, UT, UGA, Mizzou, Kentucky or Vandy. it's like these games, when they finally arrive are OOC contests.
i'm sure you will discount the above but there are MANY SEC fans that agree. either we are a conference that sticks together or not.

I must be missing all the love for UT? Seems like there is a healthy hate for the few fans they have here.
