re: At this point is it even possible for the USA to get it's financial house in order?

What government is going to give up their currency? And why would you want a currency as volatile as bitcoin?
Since the world veered away from the gold standard, in which value was easy to determine from country to country, we have an inefficient system worldwide with numerous national currencies. We have a foreign exchange market in the trillions that produces zero value for society.
This market only exists because of the fluctuations in the value of currencies. We can’t set a fixed exchange rate like $1 = 1 Euro = 1 Swiss Franc. These values fluctuate because of the supply and demand caused by different interest rates, inflations, economic performance, etc of the different countries.
This system of inefficiency has been begging for a solution for decades. Bitcoin is secure and can be easily exchanged worldwide at very low costs, eliminating the need for the multi trillion dollar foreign exchange market. Bitcoin is scarce, and not subject to money printing and debasement like government currencies.
Yes Bitcoin is volatile right now and will remain so until it reaches a point of mass acceptance. The free market will ultimately determine whether it becomes the world reserve currency and it won’t get there without more acceptance and stability. But the more the U.S. government prints money to inflate their way out of the massive debt, the more likely it’s going to happen.

The 3% rate is reason for consideration. Run some numbers. For example, if your mortgage all in with taxes and insurance is $1,200 and it can rent for $2,600, it might be worth considering.
That doesn’t mean you’re making $1,400/mo. Need to set aside funds for maintenance/expenses. Consider big ticket items such as the age/condition of roof and AC unit.
There are of course some tax benefits and, hopefully, appreciation long term. But just know it’s not a passive investment and being out of state should give you some pause.
Selling it, taking the $175k equity and throwing in some index fund and making $15k/yr on that is going to be a hell of a lot easier. So it’s just a math equation and making sure you can do better than that.. and weighing whether that extra earned over the truly passive income is worth your time.

What are your goals? Do you have a need for the equity that’s locked up?
What’s your mortgage rate? What area of town?

Bitcoin is surrounded by more efficient altcoins. Why would we choose it over the others, or ones yet to be created?

This is the statement I'm waiting on someone to explain away. There's no logical argument against it other than saying "it was first, so it wins"
Altcoins sacrifice decentralization to achieve “efficiency.” For instance, they might promise faster transactions but do so by reducing the number of nodes or miners controlling the network, allowing a small group—often the founders or wealthy insiders—to capture control and manipulate the system for personal gain.

100%. This criteria for returning was a total frick you to Phil. DJ was collateral damage and worth it for the Tour to say frick Phil.
Will be interesting to see what happens. I’ve never seen anyone less happy on a golf course than Rahm on LIV, but he’s likely got the most to lose coming back. I think Bryson returns if he can continue to monetize his businesses outside of the Tour in some manner. Tour probably dgaf about Cam Smith but he meets the criteria. Not sure how much he would care to return anyway.. seems like he doesn’t work on his game as much anymore.

I will be surprised if CC companies voluntarily decide to do this and stop raking in boat loads of money.

The federal reserve was created so that the government could take us off the gold standard and print money to fund world war 1.
The titanic stuff is a coincidence. I’ve never heard of this theory.

re: Advice: Can We Afford This House?

You have substantial assets for a couple presumably under 40. You can afford it now if you want it. If rates drop, home prices are probably going up soon after. You can get the house now and refinance later.
But yes, you will need to accept reduced funding to the investments.

This shite is, dare I say, even dumber than LIV. And LIV is fricking awful.
I guess this was done as a way to pay guys extra to stay on tour and not leave for LIV. Maybe they thought they could steal some market share from the YouTube golfers. I’m guessing it shuts down when LIV shuts down..

U club then if these are priorities. Have the practice holes as well. BRCC driving range is nice but also kind of sucks as it is only like 270 yards and then you are hitting into people on the other end of the range. CCL is a little better but you still have to hit driver out to the right so you don’t smoke the private lessons shack area at about 280-290.

I opened a position in Global Atomic Corp (GLATF) last week at $0.55 after coming across the company when searching for Uranium plays. It popped 20% Friday. Not sure what the catalyst was because I didn’t find anything searching Twitter.
High risk play. They have funding to get them through about mid March 2026 and are awaiting final approval of financing with a hearing later this month.

Don't disagree. Mine gave up 130k. Visited 6 different options when she was pregnant for the first kid, some as much as 1,600/m per kid. She cried like a baby every time we left.
Wasn't easy when it started, but easy and worth it now.
Curious.. what were you making? Because this matters a lot here. Were you making ~$130k too? If so, kudos for making that sacrifice. But if you were already making $250k+, much easier decision to make.
And I am not trying to minimize the decision, but at a certain income all needs and wants are met and everything else is just lagniappe.
So it’s a totally different situation for the guy making $100k and wife making $50k. And that’s going to be your more common scenario.
ETA: I now see another poster has already brought up this scenario..
