Austin does have some charm to it, and definitely a unique atmosphere. And by unique I mean it’s filled with freaks like this:

A&M. Texas is one of the most liberal colleges in the country.

Austin is a wonderful city, if you have money.

Personally, I highly recommend it as an adult with a good job.

However, I wouldn’t want to go to college here.

It’s a shitty place to be a poor college student, crammed in the middle of a concrete jungle downtown, paying out the arse for a shoebox-sized apartment and dealing with smelly bums on the way to class.

Going to college in a major city’s downtown is just not my idea of the true American college experience.

I advise my path: go to college at A&M and enjoy a real college town experience, where you can live in a house for next to nothing, experience no crime, and get an equivalent degree without the extra expense or hassle.

I'm going with this. I mean, I have a bit of money, but if Texas really is basically an urban school (not all schools located in major cities are 'urban' -- Vandy, for instance, is located in what is basically suburbia) it really defeats the purpose of the college experience. Cities can be great for entertainment and cultural opportunities, but there's just something about the coziness of a small-to-medium town experience in college.

Despite their cultish, boorish, and seemingly homoerotic behavior, I'd go with A&M. U of Texas and Austin has swung way too far left for me.

College station is just a safer version of Waco Tx. I don't mind college station, but overall austin is better.

I understand that. But im talking about as a whole Texans are not triggered by folk from bama. Want proof? Visit central and west Tx.

Being from Houston. I always liked the vibe of austin especially when there are festivals going on. Just makes you want to smoke a blunt in front of cops and dare them to arrest you.

A$M. All the boys chase each other. That leaves 6 girls for every straight guy. I think I would have a better than average chance of getting laid anytime day or night.
Plus it is a great school.

Think most people choosing Austin aren't taking this into consideration along with expense. This is for undergrad, Austin is the obvious choice even for Aggies post-grad.

Austin >> College Station

But Austin is too liberal with a lot of freaks and weirdos.

So A&M between those two.

Possibly...you, however, would appear to have a strong affinity for the Yell Leaders.

I plan on spending time in the city where the college is located. Water and nice extracurricular activities in an urban setting outweigh vast nothingness.

There were many ways to look at the cityscape and see the obvious reasons why Austin is better than College Station, but your response is dumb.

Exactly...the purpose of college is to surround yourself with people who already think exactly like you do. That way you aren't in jeopardy of re-evaluating your ideas.

Haha. You pretty much described Austin perfectly with that.

I've been to both cities to party while I was in college and since graduating. Had a good time at both but Austin has more to offer (bars, women, people, fun). The Dirty Sock has nothing on Austin's show girls. College Station is really lacking once you leave campus. Everyone in College Station is pretty much the same person...Texas Pride yawyaws. This is coming from a guy who thinks the Longhorns got what they deserved after screwing over their own conference by signing direct contracts with ESPN. I also used to hate A&M with a passion but since they are in the SEC now they have grown on me.

Fun: Texas > aTm
Women: Texas > aTm
City: Texas > aTm
Education: Texas > aTm
Football: Texas < aTm

Texas. Better academics, harder to get into, fewer milkman dudes.
