I disagree.

When I feel it’s severed, I will no longer watch. I rarely watch pro sports and won’t watch a minor league football league not tied to the university.

A business entity which is allowed to exploit its workers might be one of the answers to your questions.

You own a business selling widgets that you and your employees make. A local prison decides to make those same widgets with prison labor and sell them as well. How long are you in business?

What’s the difference in the XFL and the SEC?

At the highest level, not much except the SEC has more $$$ & a preexisting fan base.

Cool, a shitty, irrelevant analogy.

They go to school bc it’s the norm and to make the nfl, imo, it’s their only option. The options you mentioned to me mirror the concept of “barriers of entry”. The fact that the hard way (not going to college) is almost impossible to make it pro, and the easy way (going to a college with only a scholarship) makes it almost guaranteed into the nfl for top tier athletes, is technically unfair. But it does benefit us fans and our schools. I can’t name a single player that made the NFL outside of college except maybe the movie about the nfl walk on…invincible? For nba, both the G league or college have, again just my opinion/not fact, a similar shot/chance to go pro.

I personally want to state (very unpopular opinion for tRant), I don’t think being an athlete in the entertainment field (sports is for our entertainment)…that they should look at it as a privilege to play for free (or just a scholarship) to represent our schools. I hate hearing that. This is a multi billion dollar business. To me, it’s been a privilege we get enjoy them while we have them. Maybe my mind is starting to accept change is coming so I should keep an open mind. Who knows, I’m ranting.

Yes. The players are not relevant. Players are popular due to the connection to the college.

If no elite players went to college, LSU would still sell out games and people would still watch on TV.

I’m just stating the facts that a fourth of many rosters left for a payday and HS recruits arent even asking about winning or majors anymore, only NIL and scheme fit. That’s pro sports with your teams sticker on it.

Open the floodgates. Everybody who thinks they are good enough to go pro, let them. Many of these players have zero interest in learning anything other than football once they hit campus.

I’m not knocking them. College isn’t for everybody. Let the 5 stars go play in the XFL or some other farm league. They will suddenly cease to have value above their contract.

You could put D3 athletes in the unis of LSU, Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson, etc. and those stadiums will still be full. CFB isn’t popular because of Burrow, Bryce Young, or Caleb Williams. It’s popular because fans want State U to beat Tech.

Because players are paid, both cash and benefits.

A college football players total package, not even including NIL, can exceed 6 figures per year. Way more than that at a private school.

But you keep on with your prisoners making widgets stories. Totally relevant.

There are lots of great college players that are not future pro players.

You may not be smart enough to grasp the concept.

No way. They aren’t full now. People aren’t paying thousands of dollars or even tuning in to watch D3 kids. The SEC gets eyeballs because it has 5*’s & future NFL stars out there.

How soon do we start seeing some of these issues pop up in high school ?
Money for the players and their parents is already changing hands for the
better high school players. It seems the only answer is to separate sports
from education and let the chips fall where they may.
