The 70's was so fricking awesome AC/DC, Pink Floyd,Lynyrd Skynyrd,Rolling Stones and plenty more

Aerosmith, Van Halen, Zeppelin, Beatles in the early 70s, The Who, Allman Bros. No wonder vinyl is making a resurgence.

Legit point. One of my sons plays guitar too. He loves 60s, 70s, early 80s rock just as much as I do. Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Led Zep, Santana, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, Allman Brothers, Joe Cocker, Steely Dan, Buckingham Nicks / FW Mac, James Taylor... Great musicians and composers.

Eta: R&B, Soul & Motown were great genres back then too.

There's plenty of great music being made today. The artists making great music just aren't superstars anymore. I bet Saban would like Whitney

I actually think music is better now than it has been in a long time.

But country music is awful right now. It's just really bad rap, or heavy on the rich girls love a country boy cliche or its a girl who wants her guy dead. Yawn.

I'm trying to think of songs from the 90s or 00s that I still like to hear... can't think of any.

I mean Nirvana, Garth brooks, Tupac and Biggie, REM, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili peppers, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Travis tritt, Tool.

It wasn't the 70s or even the 80s but it held it's own. The decline was evident, though

Gene Autry is the GOAT. Back when Country music was actually Country Western instead of what it is now; a bunch of Southern White trash who for some reason wear cowboy hats and boots and sing songs about their White Trash problems.

Any music made after 1957 is shite and if you listen to it or enjoy it you're a garbage person.

Country that's not coming out of Nashville is fantastic right now. Sturgill Simpson is incredible. Red Dirt has been good for the last decade with Randy Rogers and Turnpike Troubadours leading the way.

Old man yelling at clouds or legitimate point?

His most legitimate point you could hear it all (pop, rock, soul, R&B) on one Top 40 radio station.

There's good music still being made, but it's hard to find and too segregated / niched.

Let me say, country music playing on the radio is awful.

I like listening to Dwight Yoakam still.

This.
Obviously if you're just turning on a pop station you're gonna get a bunch of dogshit but the alternative scene is producing high quality music at an unprecedented rate. The old white rednecks on this board don't have the patience or basic internet skills to find it though

It sounds like 'old man' talk but scientists basically proved that over the past few decades popular music has become more formulaic and simplistic.

They analyzed the melody and notes and vocabularies of the most popular songs and there is a strong trend towards homogenization and simplicity over the past few decades.

So yes, popular music is becoming 'dumber'

Absolutely agree. Today's music is pure shite. Least the 90s had some good bands in rock. Soundgarden, Radiohead, Tool, Rush, etc. Now its just... Awful

Saban liking MJ and The Eagles immediately discredits his opinions on music.
