I agree here..but can you honestly find bands as good as Floyd, Zepp, Stones now?
Yes. Tool.
Country singers with the talent of Cash or Hank?
No, you can't.
Song writers as amazing as Dylan?
Yes. Maynard James Keenan
I just don't see it. Even in the less popular groups. Blues singers with the soul of BB King?
Guitarist like Clapton or Jimi?
There is no guitarist better than Jimmy Page and never will be.
Maybe it's because it has all been done before.

The only other band that even comes close is Lef Zeppelin.

It wasn't the 70s or even the 80s but it held it's own. The decline was evident, though
A lot of folks have forgotten (and many more never knew) that a metric ton of it had to do with record labels overspending like mad. Here's just an example: One decided their studio was in the middle of a multi-floor building (right off the bat, see any problems there?).
They were also forced to stop price-fixing CDs. Albums cost $20.00 in the mid-late 90s as opposed to $8.99 today.
It all bit them in the 2000s. They wound up with major financial problem across the board and the quality of music took a major hit. Studios were more interested in turning the RIAA into the FBI and suing the shite out of their customers than they were putting out music.
Oh and Saban's right about music. 60s-70s was better than other eras. You don't have to be old to know that.

Absolutely right and amazing that all these SJW ad agencies continue to use these songs to sell their products.
I don't think that word means what you think it means.

It means exactly what I stated.
Once again, they continually use songs from the 70's and 80's to promote their profucts but they DETEST the era.

I guess one could argue that SOME of today's Hip Hop/Rap has superior rhythm/rhyme-scheme and word creativity (at least the ones that have broader vocabularies than frick, motherfricker, bitch, etc. and choose subject matter a little deeper than dick measuring).
But on the whole, it's pretty hard to argue that today isn't vastly homogeneneous and vanilla compared to the eclecticism of Satan's era...

It's not just music either. Literature, art, movies, TV, theatre, etc have all gone noticeably downhill. We're basically in a creative "dead zone" that nobody wants to acknowledge.
One notable exception would be dramatic TV series. Shows like Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad. GOT and all the Netflix stuff are miles beyond anything ever done in that medium in the past. TV is mostly crap nowadays but when they get a hit, it's a homerun.

I'm 27 yrs old and agree with him. Music today sucks. All I listen to is music from the late 60s through early 90s

They should have gotten Ozzy to play "No More Tears" at halftime just to troll the other conferences

I think the best music of today is often the lesser-known stuff. I love a lot of music from the 60's and 70's, but I also love Jason Isbell, Ray Lamontagne, Iron and Wine, etc.

quote:I've gone all alternative now, we have a good station that plays early 90's grunge with old & new alternative and another station that plays a little of everything 60/70/80's, tons of Stones/Floyd/Hendrix/Clapton/Santana.
Obviously if you're just turning on a pop station you're gonna get a bunch of dogshit but the alternative scene is producing high quality music at an unprecedented rate. The old white rednecks on this board don't have the patience or basic internet skills to find it though
