Lane Kiffin is mentally stunted, some say mentally retarded in some ways, and has the reasoning skills of a teenager and behaves much like a teenager in more ways than one.
His ability to somewhat run an offense is offset by his many, many negatives that you will soon be talking about when you turn against him, with the rest of the LSU fanbase.
Then comes the inevitable rewrite of things as having never wanted him in the first place and everyone is glad he is gone. Everyone but LSU fans can already envision what is going to happen. It's going to be really funny.

Saban was talking to Kiffin as a loving father talks to a child that has a learning disability. Lane, due to mental issues, has great difficulty making decisions, especially good ones.
He wanted his retard child to succeed, just not at Alabama because no one, including Saban, wanted him at Alabama.
That's did not prevent Saban from still trying to help him though. With retarded people, sometimes you have to lay things on thick, do some exaggerating, to lead them in the right direction.

Saban never asked anyone, anywhere, at anytime if he could come back to LSU.
I'm not saying he didn't like coaching there. Most coaches do like wherever they are coaching or, you know, they would likely not be coaching there.
On the other hand, which is where so many people find LSU fans to be ridiculous caricatures, Saban did not secretly want to come back to his only home he ever loved and to the only fans he could relate to and to the only city that truly loved him, and to the only place he wanted to live the rest of his life at.
The melodramatic and overdone and clownish way LSU fans have continually wanted to claim Nick Saban as theirs and only theirs is a strange form of hick-town hero worship I've never really encountered.

They sincerely are incapable of comprehend this nor are willing to accept it.
No different than LK being the “successor” to Coach Saban when the guy was literally fired by the man during the season.
Yet somehow, despite being the HC at programs like OM, UT, USCw the guy was 9-24 vs top25 opponents until this past season (“improved” to 14-26), and has over 20 losses by 24 points or more in his career as a HC, along with his biggest accomplishment being winning Conference USA western champs at FAU….
