Had Gus let Marshall loose in 2014 he would have put up Johnny Football type numbers. Instead Gus pounded Artis Payne up the middle all year long.

CAP was an outstanding SEC RB, but he was no Tre Mason.

Problem was that Gus thought he was.

In Alabama's system, Hurts is a better QB than Marshall. Reverse is probably true regarding Auburn's system, although Hurts has some great wheels as well with better size than Marshall.

Also think Daboll has not managed Hurts well over the past year. By all accounts, Hurts seems to be a good teammate and hard working kid. I think Hurts would have really benefitted if Kiffin had stayed.

Nick Marshall would never have even started a down at QB if he had played at Alabama. Hurts has put up better numbers in a tougher system (although with better supporting cast).

People are remembering the dynamic run plays from Marshall, but are forgetting that his career stats were worse than Hurts, and he just wasn't that accurate.

If there's one thing Saban's proven over the years, its that he's adaptable on offense. Even to the point of running some of the offense that he tried to get outlawed a few years ago.

Saban's defense remains Saban's defense, but his offense is fluid. If Saban had Nick Marshall, he would have produced more than Hurts dreams about.

(P.S. This is not a critique of Malzahn's use of Marshall. My only criticism of Malzahn when he had Marshall is he wasn't brave enough to use him to his fullest extent. Even then he would kick that FG from the 3-yd line instead of letting Marshall create his wizardry.)

Nick Marshall is even less accurate than Hurts, and yet Marshall would have put up better stats? UGA thought so highly of his QB skills that they moved him to DB. Hurts stats as a freshman and sophomore were better than Marshall's as a junior and senior.

I don't even think Hurts is that great of a running QB. For every first down scramble where Hurts makes something out of nothing, he has five other runs where he gets tackled for a loss or minimal gain. Hurts is not a very efficient running QB.

Please continue to confine yourself to the four sides of your "quarterbacks only pass" box, Mr. Stupid.

I thought Jalen had a chance to be like Marshall with a little bit of progression, but he never did that.

By the 2nd half of 2014 and 2015 Marshall was awesome. He wasn't a great intermediate passer but he made decent reads and was a great deep ball thrower with a huge arm.

The 2014 team is as perfect as team for Malzahns offense that could ever exist : Great Oline, Great running QB, smart quality RB, big fast WRs, QB with huge arm to stretch D.

Nick was a phenomenal athlete that may have been better at basketball. He played AAU with KCP and scouts at tournaments were higher on Nick. His high school coach told me a scout said that if Nick concentrated 100% on basketball he would be a future lottery pick.

Nick da Quick. Aka the wizard.

Dude was the second most effective qb we have ever had in 2014 (behind 2010 Cam obviously). He was basically unstoppable in 2014. We just had no defense and a lot of untimely turnovers that year.

Passing is kind of the thing QBs get judged on at the end of the day.

So people are hating on Hurts, because he isn't a great passer, and then saying Nick Marshall was more amazing than Hurts even though his stats were worse and he is a worse passer?

What has happened is that Hurts is a man without a fan base. Alabama fans have abondoned the guy, and of course Auburn fans on here are going to go to bat for their QB.

Hurts + Lane put up better numbers than Marshall + Malzahn ever did and it's not that close. And I loved watching Marshall... He was a playmaker.

Funny thing is Auburn fans wanted him benched for Jeremy Johnson in 2014 LOL

That’s our fault, they watched him play against us and forgot we are great at making anyone look like Johnny Unitas.

No one wanted to bench Marshall. No one.

Jalen Hurts would do well in AU's system, and Stidham would probably do better in Alabama's. Strange how that happens.

Marshall would suck in Bama's offense too.

Hurts would be tough to stop in Auburn's offense.
