Good. If the players aren't going to get paid then let them at least get the best opportunity they can have.

Do you have any concern for the game itself? Certainly, you've considered the possibility that, while good for an individual, it may be bad for the sport as a whole, no?

Yeah, that would still be against the rules and I think that breaking that rule would/should have big consequences.

I have more concern for the players, especially if they are dead set on keeping them amateurs.

ESPN host Matt Schick put a tweet out today: I spoke w/ an NCAA official this week who was “95% certain” transfers will soon be allowed to play immediately in basketball & football. Could be a one-time freebie, plus grad transfer option. So in theory, a student-athlete could play for three different schools w/o sitting out.

The NCAA would literally be creating rules that would increase the likelihood of kids being paid big $$$, so that they can then act outraged and hand out penalties.

If an under the radar kid signs with some smaller school... then after 2 years is obviously a super star, how many boosters are going to be paying big $$$ under the table to convince that kid to transfer? It will happen all the time.

No it wouldn't.

Players talk. Players from other schools would get word from coaches and those players would reach out to other kids.

I've never understood the rule about having to sit out a year. It's a lot better for the players.

It serves as a deterrent for chaos and to prevent schools from having to re-recruit their own players every year. This would be like running an NFL franchise and every one of your players being a free agent every year.

Not a problem with it as long as they can't do it within the conference...will turn into the wild west.

Back in the day players could transfer and play immediately. Unfortunately sometimes transcripts and stuff took a while to arrive. This led to some celebrated cases where big name players were found to have attended schools prior to attending their current school. The biggest scandals happened at Navy and Yale back in the '20's. Conferences reacted by imposing a one year limit on transfers. It was not viewed as a punishment on players as freshman could not play and most players redshirted.

Now it's mostly designed to limit plants- players who sign at one school until their intended school has room for them.

Didn't even think about it from that angle. I think it's safe to say that while it sounds fair and good in theory, it would have a lot of unintended consequences that I don't think anyone would like.

This is bad. With the 25 schollie hard cap, you can't stay ahead of the transfers anymore because you do not get those schollies back unless you give it to someone who walked on in a previous year. Coaches nightmare.

Think about it. Highly recruited player X wants to play QB at State U. But State U has a top notch QB. What dies he do. He signs at State U's rival, takes up a schollie for a year, then bails. The rival school is screwed while State U reaps all the benefits.

Back when unlimited s hollies were the norm this didn't hurt a school. But in this era of intense scholarship pressure having this happen 2-3 times a year could bankrupt a school.

Yup. Welcome to free agency.

The way I see this, it's an attempt to get some parity back.

how about a program's nightmare. As a fan of a program and not a player, you should see what effects this could have on the program you follow. It's going to hurt the G5 schools the most, and these are the schools just trying to keep their heads above water financially. If we are to have a system that enables all of their top prospects to transfer, without penalty, to P5 schools, that would kill a lot of programs that work their asses off to try to make their programs profitable.

Until they allow players to make money, I will always care about the players more than the programs.
