They will not shorten those goofy arse commercials.

Here is the video. They go in depth about this at the 10min ish mark.
Unnecessary Roughness- Josh Pate
I guess he says they are shorting the games, citing player safety. But on the other side of the coin, they are trying to increase the season to 17 games, which doesn’t help player safety. It makes more sense in their discussion lol

I know a way to make games shorter! Sell less ad time!

Not the fans but I bet the advertisers want more space.

That was mentioned. Instead of cutting down half time to 12 mins like the NFL, they are trying to shorten games while at the same time increasing ad commercial space, so I guess in theory, the games last just as long on tv, but we were able to sell 25 more commercials? Fûck up

I hate all of these proposals, especially the "carrying over any fouls to the next period instead of finishing with an untimed down." Would make penalties at the end of the half totally meaningless. Just mug everyone in the end zone. PI doesn't matter.

What people wanted fixed was the 3 hour game windows for 3:30-4 hour games. Terrible for TV

Some people here seem to think that networks should show these games or other sports events out of the goodness of their hearts just so Joe Fan can watch his team. The commercials are the whole point. No commercials, no money and no money, no TV, and the schools and conferences and networks aren’t going to do it for the income level they did it for in 1983.

How about we start by eliminating 5+ minute commercial breaks on every stoppage of play? Seems more logical than changing the fricking rules.
It takes 10 minutes, minimum, to get from a team scoring a TD to the first play from scrimmage on the following possession because of fricking commercials.

Are you willing to go strictly pay per view to ensure no commercials? Because that’s the only way commercials are going to disappear and they’re going to continue to increase because the schools and conferences and networks are never going to put up with a stagnant income level.
Again, the only reason these games are on TV is to make money from commercial advertising. They’re not showing games out of the goodness of their hearts so fans can see their teams.

How does the English Premier League make $1.6 billion a year on their television contract with no ads during the game?

God forbid we cut into any of the commercial time in order to make a game a little shorter.

No I think I’ll stay around and talk some sense to overly entitled fans who think they should have a voice in running things.

This rule is being changed for the 1st and 3rd quarters only, not the 2nd and 4th. The OP left that part out.

Yes. I often find myself on fall Saturdays saying “This is just too much football. They should shorten the experience.”

Get rid of the ads and halftime.
