i'm surprised no one has started hollering racism. this would open up more scholarships for white players.

but there is a different perspective. it is not racist to teach young black man about the importance of an education, teaching them that they are blessed with a mind that can achieve more than they imagine. getting to the pros and having success is like hitting the lottery - it's just not available to many - not even the black athletes. But an education is.

speaking of that - they need to get rid of these crap degrees - sociology, psychology, kinetics, African-American studies, feminist studies, an endless load of crap offered for all students. we need to get the education back in the system.

Would relegate college basketball closer to the shite-pile that is college baseball.

Which might be good for the sport. Now the tournament isn't won in March, it is won in the recruiting season. It would really level the playing field.

There goes Kentucky basketball. I like it, and it would restore some credibility to the game

Yeah because Kentucky wasn't successful in other decades when this rule existed or there was no one and done.

It would essentially make overseas an NBA D-League for players capable of going after one year. That's just silly.

But I'm sure there's plenty of those 3 year football players who care so much about academics that they major in majors that are meaningful to pursuing a successful career after football right? You know for integrity and all.

I like it. And guaranteed four-year scholarships, too.

The colleges can pretend like they really care about student-athletes academics, but the reality is that they LOVE the money and exposure big time athletics bring to their institution.

Wouldn't this apply to every college sport, then?

By the way, I disagree with your statement. I don't think Shabazz Napier was a super recruit but he put UConn on his back for six games and won it all last year. Same with Kemba Walker and UConn's 2011 title. Their opponent that season? Butler, and the average person couldn't name a single player off of that roster without looking it up (Gordon Hayward was there in 2010, but in the NBA in 2011).

Winning the recruiting battle certainly helps, and you'll almost always get to the tournament with a top recruiting class (Kentucky team that somehow lost to Robert Morris in the NIT not withstanding), but once you get to the tourney, one bad shooting night can end a great team's season, like it has done so many times in early tourney exits for Duke. On the flip side, an average team can get scalding hot from 3pt land (2002 Indiana says hello) and win a few games they probably shouldn't.

This is stupid. There are maybe 10 OADs a year.

The NCAA is just a feeder system for the pros and relies on future stars for its product. Doing this will lead to the academy structure soccer uses overseas. NBA can change it's draft eligibility criteria to get the players they want.

NCAA needs to realize what they are.

Well they are supposed to be student athletes. This can be argued pretty strongly from either side.

I actually prefer the way football does it as opposed to the basketball way, since there are too many one and done players today.

absolutely wonderful idea...

immediately takes the pressure off of kids that arrive on campus with huge expectations. makes it known thruout high school campuses that you have to have the grades and the study habits mastered to contribute after you show the ability to adapt to college

It would be one thing if the power bottom conference (Big 12) commissioner wasn't the one speaking on everyone else's behalf...

No. You just wish it won't happen because we all know Kentucky will suck if this happens. Coach cal doesn't know how to coach, only how to recruit. So when he faces the challenge of actually coaching... You guys will be screwed and run him out of town.

I guess I would be hoping in your position as well.

I know right? Nothing like a program with fans that think basketball didn't start until the 00s and that Kentucky hasn't been successful through multiple coaches and decades.
