Tom Petty Interview 2
Tom Petty talking about Gainesville bar as inspiration for song
Tom Petty-Live from Gatorville Concert
He says Gainesville is home and he likes the Gators. He has a song called Gainesville He's worked on campus at UF and did a big concert in Gainesville with Stevie Nicks. He doesn't wear Gator jerseys and jorts because he's not a shithead but he's pretty clear about his connection to Gainesville and liking the Gators :dunno:

HCs yell at coordinators all the time and dont fire them.

I don't want Mullen gone. I think he's a good coach but I do think he's extremely immature.
Why did he yell at Grantham during a game? Seemed like it was because the players were not in the right positions. Well, it kept happening throughout the rest of the season so why is Grantham still around?

You don't need to be a dick and say: "This guy sucks" but even if it's just a small nod, that goes a long way. Him shitting all over the offense (record breaking offense), talking about how we lost to A&M because of their crowd and to pack the stadium, then not calling out Marco Wilson?
It's contrary to the professionalism required of a coach here. Downplaying the offense and not acknowledging weaknesses with the defense and yet chewing his coordinator out during the middle of a game. He clearly knows there's an issue but isn't addressing it fully.
re: I’m 46 and I just applied to med school

I would do it only if you can't imagine doing anything else in your life but medicine. If it's purely for money it's not worth it.
If you applied already that's one huge burden out of the way.
If not, you would have to make sure to have all the prerequisites (Bio 1/2, Chem 1/2, BioChem, Orgo 1/2, Physics 1/2, Calc/Stats) and have a decent GPA in those courses. If the last time you saw these subjects were for pharmacy school decades ago you would have to refresh in order to take the MCAT. Then you need LOR, personal statement, all that.
Then med school. The curriculum for those accelerated programs is tough. Luckily they're transitioning Step 1 to P/F. But you'll have Step 2 CK, CS. You'll have clinicals...you are on the bottom of the totem pole. Surgical rotations where you'll be yelled at by scrub techs for not scrubbing in correctly, attendings who will keep you in the hospital for indefinite periods of time for no reason, writing long and tedious notes no one wants to read.
Then residency. You're pursuing FM so you'll be doing rotations in pediatrics, ICU, hospital wards, OB/GYN. You may be at a program where you have 28 hour call or NF. This is just some of what you'll experience.
I've seen pharmacy residents when doing residency. Some of them have gone on to specialize in critical care, oncology, transplant, ID, informatics, palliative care, research. Wouldn't it just be easier to pivot in one of these directions rather than going through medical school?

These studies that routinely put up Scandinavian countries as models to look up to are ridiculous.
My parents are immigrants and there is no way in hell I would have had the same economic and education opportunities in Iceland as I do here.
I don't understand what the purpose of these studies are-small homogeneous countries are better? :dunno:

The Florida schools are just as guilty of courting out of state kids as the Alabama schools. My daughter's test scores and GPA are 98th percentile and we are Florida residents and UF and FSU haven't given her the time of day. She has received more mail/email from EVERY other SEC school and elite private schools like Chicago, Dartmouth, Duke, Wake Forest, Cornell, Brown, MIT, and Cal Tech than the 2 state schools in her own back yard. She's been accepted into Bama's honors college with a Presidential Scholarship, Tulane with a Founders Scholarship and an honors invite, Mercer with a Presidential, and she's waiting to hear from Vandy, UNC, and Miami.

UF may boast about their 20% admission rate, but it's a combination of not enough space combined with an exploding population and cherry picking out of state kids too.
That's absolutely not true. Florida doesn't court out of state students. They don't really court anybody because they don't have to. The demand is there without having to do so. Nationally, Florida has a very high in state admission rate and also rates high in admitting first generation college grads and the underserved in Florida. It also has one of the cheapest in state tuitions as well.

Too many of these Universities are chasing these list and selling their souls. Bama and Auburn are perfect examples, catering to the out of student and ignoring their mission to the state citizens who built the schools.
Florida has been climbing up by offering free in state tuition to the best Florida high school students. The top 10% high school students who would have gone to Hopkins or some of the expensive private schools now stay in state and UF is the best public school in state. For people planning for graduate degrees, a free undergrad education is amazing. I got a free ride to UF and was able to finagle extra scholarships. Had no debt when going to a public in state med school. Most of my med school class was the same.
I know Alabama has been recruiting some of the top high schoolers in Florida by offering free room and board, books, etc in addition to tuition.

Why are you even humoring them at this point?
No minds will be changed. People will still be set in their ways. As you see in this thread, people would rather you and others like you not be in this country regardless of what contributions you make because you are not white.

That's not her girlfriend, that's Sue Bird. She's one of the best female basketball players of all time.

quote:You must be talking about Alabama. Because their recruiting efforts (athletic and academic) in the state of Florida are second to none.
They don’t actively recruit in state kids, even with stellar grades and test scores because they don’t want them to come. They’d rather have the out of state kid who will pay higher tuition.
UF caters to in state students.

Sucks that the dumb things said in the past can come up and bite you in the butt.
HOWEVER, a digital footprint is everlasting especially if it's a public tweet. He should have been smarter and deleted it much earlier. And honestly people need to be more thoughtful and less reflexive and impulsive. That flight attendant might be horrible but why do you feel the need to tweet about it? Or that you haven't had lunch?
