I think it’s hardly an accomplishment.

As long as we’re in agreement that Will Wade hasn’t won shite and is 1-3 vs Nate Oats. At this juncture, there’s not much else to say.

Ahhh he won an SEC title, but that doesnt mean shite to me really. Oats is on his way to one as well. But yeah I think Wade is overrated especially with the baggage he holds. I think Oats is a good coach, but I wouldnt have paid him yet. He seems like a good guy as well.

Alabama is one of those perfect jobs in college basketball.
There aren't expectations of Final Fours every year. You can makes ton of money. I'd imagine $3.5 million puts him in the top 10.
The practice facilities, amenities and offices are some of the nicest in the country.
Damn delusional. Alabama Basketball is the football equivalent of Ole Miss, Louisville, Virginia Tech, et al.
Those offices tho

Damn. OM, Louisville and VT football are 2nd all-time in conference wins and conference tournament titles.
I guess they do have a lot in common with Alabama basketball.

The arena is the least used facility by any team. All other facilities are where they spend their most time.
And they're among the best.

Life seldom emulates the SEC Rant, so there's hope. Nate Oats was told if he comes in and wins he will be compensated accordingly. I would say that that investment has lived up to the results so far and BAMA is smart to stay in front of their word. For all the other rhetoric about the future, never underestimate the human factor in any job.
If ALABAMA can settle a transient coach Saban down by the river, it can appeal to a family of Yankees that have expressed their gratitude for being in the deep south.

What an accomplishment. Dude has 0 tournament wins at Alabama. I would have waited to see how he does in the tournament before throwing the checkbook at him.

The FBI has got Wade on tape offering cold hard cash for players and you keep this ticking time bomb around because he won the SEC.
By those standards, seems like a pretty safe sample size for BAMA.

LSU fans complaining about Oats is odd to say the least.

Fair enough. Contracts are always a calculated risk.
But even if Alabama gets bounced in the first round, you believe he's not worthy of an extension, despite an SEC title in his second season?

Oats is on the verge of winning the Regular season SEC title possible #1 seed likely a #2 seed in the NCAA, currently putting together the most talent we as fans have seen on Capstone since early 2000s. They play an exciting brand of basketball and it has brought back enthusiasm to the program.
Why wouldn't you pay the man?

He's now making what Tom Crean makes and is somewhere around the 20th highest paid basketball coach in the country. My guess is Muss will get a nice extension soon as well.
1. Calipari ($8.16M)
2. Barnes ($4.70M)
3. Buzz Williams ($3.843M)
4. Pearl ($3.840M)
5. Oats ($3.23M)
6. Crean ($3.20M)
7. Frank Martin ($3.05M)
8. Cuonzo ($2.90M)
9. Kermit ($2.85M)
10. Mike White ($2.81M)
11. Howland ($2.55M)
12. Wade ($2.50M)
13. Muss ($2.50M)
Vandy is private, no salary info
Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Just a whole lot of hate for Nate and Bama. Imagine that.

$3.2M isn't exactly "throwing the checkbook at him" imo. He received a nice raise and is now getting paid a salary that is in line with what a really good coach is getting paid these days and he's earned it on and off the court.

I'd take him as Izzo's successor (has a lot of experience in MI). He has done a great job at Alabama.
I think this is the biggest threat to him leaving Bama...lots of ties to the state, not to mention, Izzo’s praise of him to Byrne was a pretty big factor of Bama hiring him...

As long as Saban misses those layups on purpose and let's Oats win the coaches basketball league he will be content.

Folks keep mentioning MSU, here's the thing:
You don't want to be the guy that follows the legend and Izzo is def. a cbb legend.
Also, Oats has stated it's nice to have a strong cfb program on the same campus. He loves Saban and the dynamics between both programs (two of Bama's football players will be with the bball team).
Also, Oats is conservative/libertarian in politics. I know this is speculation here but his comments about the shutdown has been an eye opener, and Michigan is gone as a state as far as being blue is concerned. H3ll, Oats is making as much as Izzo so that program will have to back up the brinks truck for him and I don't see it happening.
Plus, Juwan Howard at Michigan isn't going anywhere and he has that program rolling. I'd rather be 2nd string to my own football program than to a rival bball program in the same state.
