Coaches:
Saban
Bryant
General Neyland
Meyer (maybe - left under dubious and disingenuous circumstances)
That's about it really.

He also took UGA up to Ann Arbor and won in 1965 which was the first time an SEC team had gone north of the mason-dixon and won, IIRC
There is Wallace Wade's 1925 Alabama team beating Washington at the Rose Bowl, among others.

Bear, Saban, Neyland, Spurrier.

The reason these are your 4 are simple
1. Longevity
They all coached in the SEC a long time. People like Urban Meyer are auto-DQ'd for only being in the SEC briefly.
2. Accomplishments
All of them won multiple SEC titles and at least 1 national title.
3. Legacy
All of them were/are larger than life personalities that sort of defined the eras they coached in.
Obviously here are other good coaches in SEC history but none that meet those criteria.

UF beat Northwestern in 1965 at Evanston, Il. with a jr QB named Spurrier...following year in the Swamp we routed NW pretty bad.
In 1962 we were vast underdogs to Penn State in the Gzator Bowl and won 17-7 as I recall. Back in those days it was all northern schools getting love from the media.
Bama, Ole Miss and AU won a lot and when Ga Tech & Tulane dropped out, there were only 10 teams in the SEC basically from 1966 til expansion in 1992.

Is this a joke?
While I think Dooley was a great coach, he is in no way a Top 4 coach in SEC history.... but Broyles???

3 SEC championships in 22 years without Herschel isn't anything to brag about.

Bear, Saban and Urban are the only ones with more than 1 natty at an SEC school.
Posted on 1/31/18 at 8:26 am to JamalSanders
You got to have a natty to be considered, so Dye is out.
