He also took UGA up to Ann Arbor and won in 1965 which was the first time an SEC team had gone north of the mason-dixon and won, IIRC
I don't think this is correct.

Saban, Bryant, Neyland, are definitely top 3...my 4th would probably be Spurrier

1939, Coach Frank Thomas took his Bama team to NY, NY, to play Fordham University. Bama won 7-6.

Bama had played them in 33 in NY, but lost 2-0. Tennessee then played then in NY in 34 but lost 13-12. Georgia played them in 36, but tied 7-7.

Before 1932 (when the SEC was formed), in 1930 Georgia had played the New York Violets in NY and won 7-6.

Didn't you get the memo? Since UCF has decided to give themselves a national championship, everyone is claiming one.

Tennessee beat NYU 13-6 in Yankee Stadium in 1931, as well.

Auburn played Army in NY in the early 20s twice as well, among teams in WI, PA, etc... all before that date

So did Georgia in 1931 at Yankee Stadium. But that was 1 year before the SEC for formed.

But, we do have a new winner.... Tulane played and beat Colgate 7-6 in Yankee Stadium in 1933.

A lot of SEC teams played up north before then, but I was just showing the SEC team wins up north after the conference was formed in 1932.

Hog guy, sorry I hijacked your thread. I'm a history buff and the Georgia guy saying an SEC team had never beaten a team up north before 1965 didn't sit well with me.

Any top 4 list that doesn't include Neyland should be immediately ignored and the poster of said list should be banished to the fiery depths of Satan's anus for all eternity, Amen.

This ...
Bear greatly admired Neyland and flat out stated he was the better Coach....pretty high praise coming from the GOAT....Neyland was an American first and football was something he did when not kicking arse in WWII

I'm a UGA fan and I don't support this in any way. If I'm being honest, dooley was pretty overrated historically on the back of herschel. I know those years count of course, and obviously if you take away ANY coaches "golden years" they won't look as good, but Sans-Herschel (greatest cfb player of all time) dooley coached 22 seasons with 3 SEC titles. That's not top-4 worthy.

If you take away Danny Wuerffel years, Spurrier has two sec titles in 17 years. You can do this and make any sec coach not named Bear, Saban or Neyland look mediocre.

People say that Dooley was "worthless" without Herschel, but people forget how much Steve Spurrier relied on Danny Wuerffel. Spurrier's dominating run in the conference from 1993-1996 relied heavily on Wuerffel's incredible abilities. One could definitely make an argument for Wuerffel over Peyton Manning as the absolute best pocket passer this conference has ever seen. Forget about what they did in the NFL and focus squarely on their college football careers and the debate is closer than you might think.

After Wuerffel left, the Gators never quite reached the same heights they enjoyed in the mid-90s.
