Yes.

This board has been praying for Kelly to leave.

I thought it was some law or something they had to wait 7 days or I thought I read that in here. Btw can anyone explain why a university would be required by law to wait 7 days to hire a new coach. It makes no sense to me.

It's not required by law. Apparently some "protocol" they have that I haven't seen in writing. I don't know why they announced it earlier.

Not positive if the case in this instance, but not uncommon for some higher positions in certain states. I guess the reasoning is “making sure enough time so everyone gets a chance”

That could be potentially damaging to a program depending on when the coach leaves. Everyone today is now now now.

Nah. Sherrone is a good coach and he built much of that machine they have up there. He's been their Head Coach in waiting for a while now....

Guess it's time for the old "I'm not retarded, I was just pretending" bit.

Kelly is clearly NOT coveted. Michigan didn't want him, and was wise not to. They're a hot commodity atm. Attractive job.

Heard they shot for Kelly and one other coach with NFL ties both turned them down. Money was not a factor for Michigan but they will wait it out two years and plan for the future. This pick settles some discontent with some faculty who feel underpaid.

What's attractive about it?

They had a good core of players last year but most of those are leaving.

The rest of the roster isn't elite by any means.

They haven't landed great recruiting classes.

NCAA sanctions are looming.

The Big 10 is going to be a pain in the arse going forward, with all the travel.

Michigan only hires "Michigan Men". It's what they do. It's what they've always done. Why else would you promote from within coming off a natty when they could have gone after a big name?

Not exactly a model for long term success. I've posted this several times now, but since Bo Schembechler retired in 1989, Michigan has had 5 HCs. The only one who wasn't from the Michigan/Schembechler coaching tree was Rich Rod, and he only lasted three years. They have a very incestuous approach to hiring coaches, much like Alabama did in the years between Bryant and Saban. It's just what they do. They don't look to hire outside.
