I don’t think the argument is which sport is number 3. The argument is no sport is close enough to make it a big 3.

From a spectator perspective, it’s football first with softball second. Everything else trails far behind, and I only watch the games in which one of my alma maters is playing, if then.

I do like softball on television better than baseball, boredom sets in. If baseball were more fast paced - I would enjoy them evenly.
I got some down votes on my previous post regarding this...
But the fact of the matter is that most random TV viewers are more willing to watch a 2 to 2.5 hour softball game than a baseball game that routinely last an hour longer.
And IMO that is why the WCWS outdraws the men. If it were the other way around and baseball were the seven inning game... I'd bet the farm that baseball would outdraw softball.

What’s the overall viewer numbers for an entire season and not just the WS? Does softball outperform baseball there too?

CWS this year had to compete with the NBA finals and the World Cup. Bad timing.

Good questions, it's possible I think.
I watched almost all the Texas softball and baseball games this year. When their schedules overlapped I would default to softball for a few reasons. The tight pants and some of them were pretty good looking. The play was usually competitive and the effort outstanding. The softball game would be over long before baseball and would always catch the last few innings of baseball.
Be interested to see numbers on seasonal viewership.

I cannot name one person I know that “wants to talk about those softball championships”.

If more people now watch college softball than baseball, I'm not sure how anyone could argue it isn't more relevant

LSU fans get so mad for some reason over the fact that college baseball isn't a major sport.

I would argue College Baseball is only watched in the South. People up North or out West have probably never watched 3 innings of College Baseball in their life.
So it stays the "Big Three" in the South, but prpb not elsewhere.

Even LSU loses money on baseball.
LSU baseball actually did generate a small profit until a few years ago.
I'd say 2 more championships were worth it.

Especially since the best baseball players go pro out of high school.
LSU manages to keep some of them every year.

It's an argument in search of an opponent.
It's the big 3 because the most popular leagues in this country are the NFL, NBA, and MLB, and every major college has a team that participates in an amateur league of those sports.

Softball second...the hell?

Since most people that live in OK never actually leave the state, they think everyone is obsessed with women’s effin softball

As an OU alumni, I am proud of ladies softball but softball does not replace the joy I felt winning the men’s college World Series. Not even close.
