Nothing to accomplish here, I am simply pointing out that baseball is no longer more popular than softball and hasn't been for years. So, calling it part of the Big 3 is no longer correct. I actually like about all sports, so with the exception of football - none are any more important to me. I guess you could say Big 3 Men's Sports but why be sexist about it. If softball has surpassed baseball in viewership, and it has - you can't just continue to think it's more important. Networks will push what is doing better, and schools will as well. Baseball viewership has grown, and yet softball has surpassed it. It's simple math, you can't be #3 when you aren't.

I'm not sure what you guys are reading, I simply used the AI search on Google, and it has links to support its statements. Obviously, data searched can be erroneous, but I doubt the New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Yahoo Sports, or ESPN documents are wrong. If the links were to Chucks Sporting Goods in Norman, I would have questioned it. I do like softball on television better than baseball, boredom sets in. If baseball were more fast paced - I would enjoy them evenly. The games are just way too long and make me want to nap. From a purely coaching standpoint, they are nearly identical. You hit the same, you field the same. Pitching is different, but the mental part of pitching is identical. Tactics are the same. As someone mentioned earlier - the softball players for the most part do look MUCH better as well. LOL

Trust me conservative as all get out here but also smart enough to know that just because a young man is doing it, the sport doesn't have to be better. If the baseball players were playing softball, they would dominate (once they learned to see a rise ball). Luckily it's not that way, softball is fun to watch because it is different. I'm just saying it's number 3 now, so get over your fricking self saying Big 3 when it's not anymore.

I've never understood why the non baseball fans here feel the incessant need to let everyone else know they don't like baseball.

I don't like basketball but I don't create threads about it sucking or comment constantly in basketball threads with anti basketball takes.

Weird.

I'm just asking why the baseball fans think the big 3 includes baseball in 2026.

No one is making you participate, just call it the big 2 and move on.

You are more than welcome to share this opinion. Many may agree with you and many may not. That’s what great about having opinions. But just pointing out you may want to check those links. I’m pretty sure you’re just looking at revenue and saying that it generates more cash. Not realizing that they have more expenses to obtain said revenue. Meaning the profit is lower and they operated at a big loss.

The baseball viewership is climbing every single year

Right now college baseball regular season games average around 130,000 viewers. I think that if college baseball keeps trying hard and has a positive attitutde, one day more people will watch college baseball than Bravo re-runs!

I'm not sharing an opinion on revenue; I am sharing facts from recognized sources. Baseball and softball have very similar costs, while Love's field is larger than L. Dale Mitchell - therefore from a ticketing standpoint, there is more revenue. More asses in the seats means more beer/concession/merch sales.

already been thru this with other teams fans this year will be the first year OU will be able to count a full season of ticket admissions for new stadium since the previous year and where you guys are getting your numbers from only counted 2 months of tickets from new facilities. They will be in the green . Baseball holds more fans though so if they can get more to come and they will next year there isn’t a way OU baseball doesn’t out perform softball due to seating capacity capped at 4300

The Women's College World Series (WCWS) outperformed the Men's College World Series (CWS) in television viewership in 2026. The WCWS Championship Finals averaged 2.2 million viewers and peaked at 3.0 million, while the men's CWS Finals between North Carolina and Oklahoma averaged 2.0 million viewers.

This happens every year and the LSU fans make excuses

Of course it happens. The WCWS and college softball in general are the peak of the sport, that's softball's Super Bowl and NFL.

There is a big one (football), a medium one (men’s basketball), and then the rest are little ones.

#1 - This is the second year, as Love's Field opened in March 2025 during the OU Invitational.
#2 - L. Dale Mitchell official capacity is 3,180, that doesn't include SRO. Official record is 5,051. Love's Field is 3,543 (plus SRO) with a record of 4,609.

2026 numbers are not available as of yet - so here's 2025:

During the 2025 season, the University of Oklahoma's baseball stadium—now known as Kimrey Family Stadium—attracted a total regular-season attendance of approximately 61,000 fans, maintaining an average of roughly 2,250 attendees across its home games.

Key Attendance Highlights from Spring 2025
Total On-Campus Attendance: 107,813
National Ranking: #1 in average attendance across NCAA softball

There is no "Big 3." There's football, then there's men's basketball, then there is everything else. Even LSU loses money on baseball.

TV ratings don't lie either.

CFP title game: 30 million
MBB title game: 19 million
CWS title game: 2.5 million
