If anyone gives Nico even that 2.4 million offer they are crazy as he doesn't look like a QB that will elevate a team much.

You guys are funny. I don’t care what Nico does or doesn’t do. But both Huepel and Lanning have and and both are taking players from the portal. So, this idea that they are some hero’s because they decided one player wasn’t worth what he was asking for is just funny to me. If Nico called and said he’d sign for 10 bucks both Lanning and Huepel would take him in a heart beat.

Look at what this very board- everyone was laughing at Dabo the last 2-3 years for NOT taking transfers. He was the last coach holding out and instead of being lauded he was mocked. Now, suddenly Huepel is a hero because he’s only willing to pay 2 million instead of 4?

It would be best if he wound up at one of Oklahoma or Ohio State makes a bunch of money to ride the pine and poison the locker room then fade into Bolivian (Tyson joke)

The reason this has everyone pissed off and levitating IMO is this dude getting so far ahead of his skis as far as his talent and value.

The best thing for CFB is for him to end up somewhere like a San Diego State or Rice. Hopefully somewhere that makes it unquestionably clear that he fricked himself.

No way the Supreme Court rules that the NCAA cannot structure rules for transfer. Just go back to 1 time transfer OOC or sit 1 year.
student non-athletes can transfer whenever/wherever they want without restrictions

if they leave, they have to give up their scholarships (if any), but if some idiot was paying them to say, cheerlead or play in the band, and a bigger idiot at another school offers them more, they aren’t beholden to anyone

Yep the free transfer issue is the problem, not necessarily NIL.

You wouldn’t pay Nico to sit a year.

Close the transfer rule

Teams should unofficially blackball him.

Do you think the universities enjoy going to court (and losing everytime)?.

The only thing that might and I mean might save CFB, is collective bargain agreement and contracts.

This will just be a blip and not the first player to do this if changes are not made soon.

Except in the pros you have a a Commissioner and a league that actually looks out for the big picture, for the health of the game, at reasonable competition, at some kind of framework that protects the game itself.

That does not exist in college anymore. It's every man for himself, no rules, no regs, no anything, just calvinball with calvinball chaos.

Anymore??

When did it ever exist in college sports except in the minds of fans who believe in unicorns? College sports have always been mercenaries who would eat each other if possible. Remember UGA buying Herschel away from Clemson at the last second?

All that has changed is now we see it play out in the open instead of in the dark. Schools will always cheat the system they put in place because they all want to win games.

We could have had one but the useless NCAA instead of changing with the times and situations and realities tried to cling to the illusion of amateurism that so many people cling to here and tried to protect their own phony baloney jobs and income streams.

Getting paid isn't the problem.

Unlimited free agency is.

No way the courts rule that the NCAA can't require players to sign a multi-year agreement.

What was that first Wednesday in February always called?

National SIGNING Day.

That’s exactly how I’m viewing it, too.
Tell me, can professional players transfer anywhere they want to whenever they want to?

There's a lot of nuance here.

First, professional players are employees and bound to some form of employment contract.

The only reason they can't move from team to team at their will - legally - is because of separate contracts between the teams and players unions.

None of this applies to college athletes getting nil money

I agree with the players having too much power BUT they only got the power because college football abused them for a half a century.

The NCAA and conferences made billions off jersey sales, merchandise, and video game sales while they got “an education”. It does not matter how you and I see it, the courts ruled overwhelmingly in their favor.

For those upset by the yearly transfer rules, that was the NCAA and college footballs problem to begin with.

How many of you Alabama fans got mad when Saban “processed” 5-8 star recruits every year? You know the ones who did not quite measure up to his standards? Were you all yelling from the rooftops that “this is not fair! We made a 4 year commitment to these kids!”

No you did not.

The NCAA has treated scholarships as “one year renewable contracts” for decades. Now the players are finally doing the same.

It’s ugly. It’s stupid. It will ruin college football.

But don’t blame the players. Blame the coaches and the AD’s and the SEC guys who created this mess.

Do you not understand how value works?

TennerC said not interested in your value so go kick rocks. Nico thought otherwise.

The NCAA felt like that could potentially be the outcome. The reason for the current unlimited transfer rule is part of a settlement from the NCAA being sued in federal court by multiple states and the DOJ saying that the transfer limits were a violation of the Sherman anti-trust act.

A WV federal judge agreed enough to issue a tro, which lead to the settlement.

You get it. They are treating this like a business and players like either employees or independent contractors of the business. Whether fans think they should or shouldn’t is not entering into their minds. And IMO that above all is the biggest reason everyone is angry. Because fans think they pay the bills … they do but it’s more nuanced and shades of gray than they think … and no one is considering what they think or want at all.

They can easily restrict the number of transfers a school can take per year. The players should be able to transfer as much as they want but each program should only get a certain number of incoming transfers per year
