While they have a lot of combos and alternates, my old high school ripped this one straight from Clemson’s all white away uniforms.

My high school also did this and Clemson sent a cease and desist over it in the early 00s.

Given the timing of when they got the letter, I’m still convinced it was because Clemson was pissed off that a kid they heavily recruited decided to stay home and play instate. What’s funny is that same kid went on to be drafted by the Bengals and now the team has uniforms similar to Cinci without issue.

You can trademark fonts. The Federal Government (among many other entities) pays a shite ton of your tax money on using certain fonts in applications.

I coached at a school that was the tigers and used the mizzou logo. They wouldn’t allow it for free, it cost us a dollar. Always thought that wa pretty awesome

Green forest? I know they got threatened by mizzou.

This is from Sumter High School in South Carolina.

As far as I know, Carolina has never had an issue with it. Maybe it's because the colors are different, they don't use the Block C, or they simply don't care.

I also don't mind them using it because the town of Sumter is named after Thomas Sumter - a Revolutionary War hero known as the "Fighting Gamecock" and is why we chose the Gamecock as our on mascot.

My old HS (Wilson Warriors) has gone back and forth between the Wisconsin block W and the FSU spear over the years.

Both look good, but I still prefer the older variations that had an Indian cheif head and a Warrior head. They were more original.

I am almost certain that they got a letter way back in the 90's and had to rework the logo.

That's my kids' high school as well. Blue instead of purple and its basically a complete knockoff. I actually ordered a Clemson 1/4 zip to wear to games this year.

Oh, and St. Martin on the coast uses the baseball MS for Mississippi State

That’s not what it’s about. If you don’t police your trademark, it’s gets diluted and you lose the ability to enforce it. University athletic departments pour a lot of money into branding. Licensing of those brands/logos is a significant revenue stream.

If Tennessee lost the ability to enforce its trademarked “T” logo, it couldn’t force people to license it.

The most ridiculous one I've seen is Brookhaven. I mean, these look good, but they took originality to a whole new low. "Ole" is way too proprietary to pull this off

You own the design because it’s a trademarked logo.

High Schools and such still must contact the university for permission to use those logo's, however, because they're registered trademarks and using them w/o permission is a trademark infringment -- a federal offense.

Universities usually have no problem allowing high schools to use them and don't charge them a fee for using them, either.

Georgia's logo is the old Chicago Maroon logo

Probably can not be protected?

My alma mater used to use ND's until they got a cease and desist order. Doesn't surprise me as they see themselves as such a superior brand. Didn't matter that it was a small catholic school in a farming community. Different color scheme

ETA I also remember one of our coaches bitching that North Desoto (Across the state) used it too and Irish dbags didn't come calling for them. They may have changed by now though. It's been some years
