Should be one of top prospects for a head coaching position this year. Not only did he bring a Power 5 team from the ashes already (Baylor in 2019), but the team that hires him can pay him next to nothing based on the buyout clause of his contract with the Panthers.

He’ll be at Auburn

No, that might make sense so it won't happen.

I'm pretty sure no one in the SEC is going to come calling for his services. Definitely not Saban and hopefully not Auburn.

If I’m Matt Rhule, I sit out a couple years just for principle.

What principle? He got rid of Teddy Bridgewater by eating part of his contract and traded draft picks for Darnold (the Jets are probably still laughing about that one). Then he took on Baker's contract and traded picks for that. He hired dumbass assistant OC Joe Brady who was living off Joe Burrow and was in no way ready for the NFL. He was a complete and utter failure in the NFL and the sooner he starts repairing his reputational damage the better.

He's getting $40m to not coach the Panthers

Auburn should have already fired Harsin and had this guy signed.
They better get their shite together before Nebraska gives him something dumb

I say Auburn goes after Dave Aranda. If they were smart they would.

[McElroy] I’ve been told there are “very few” CFB jobs that Matt Rhule would take. None of which are open currently and are unlikely to come open this year. Money changes everything, but with the offset in his Panthers’ contract, he’ll be in no hurry. My bet is he’s on TV in ‘23.

The Panthers are a dumpster fire. If anything, he should have learned what a dumpster fire smells like.

Auburn had a search a year and a half ago and came up with Harsin. It won't get any easier for them without significant internal change

Nebraska is google searching him.

I've seen some of the language in these offset clauses that say you still have to be paid market for that job. Like he can't go to the freaking Falcons and be their OC for $1. There has to be reasonable consideration for the job you are taking. The NFL isn't going to allow one franchise to take advantage of some loophole to get a competitive advantage like that. However if you take an "analyst" job with a program like Alabama, it is really hard to peg down what the "market" is for that because the job is so vague.

quote:True. Charlie Strong did this when he was dismissed from Texas and picked up by USF. I believe we owed him $10 million over the next 2 years, so the first 2 years of his contract at USF, they only paid him $1 million in salary (which jumped to $4 million in year 3).

So maybe he just needs to take a Group of 5 job or join the Nick Saban rehab center for failed head coaches for the next couple of years
